Stayed in this hotel about 15 times during last 2 years. No reason to look for another hotel. Perfect location, quit, nice rooms, reasonable priced. For a better deal, recommend to take direct contact with hotel. Nice bar with fresh beer, good restaurtant. With wireless internet I was able to call all my friends for free from my Nokia N82 with SIP protocol, and very good sound quality. Breakfest is also very good, no complain.
It is a best option for the most of regular visitors. Check their WEB site for season promotion. Highly recommended.

I booked this hotel via e-mail directly with the hotel staff (they did not even ask for a credit card number). They offered free cancellation within 24hrs before arrival, which I think is very generous. The hotel is located in the old town of Riga, very close to all sights. The taxis stop outside old town (5min walk) or you pay extra to drive in. The city centre is closed for cars, which is nice when walking around.
The hotel staff is very friendly and competent. The hotel rooms are nicely furnished, the bathroom is new and clean. However the hotel has no lift so it can be a hassle walking up to the 4th floor with a suitcase. Our room was right under the roof and seemed to be the only room without regular window - just a window on the roof which you can open with a long stick - when it rains, it rains into the room... But then you did not hear the noise from the street - there are bars around so it can be very noisy at night.
The breakfast room is in the cellar, which feels like a wine cellar, there is a small buffet with different bread, jam, cereals, sausages, cheese, etc.
All in all it was a nice stay.

We went on a three-day pleasure trip to Riga and did not book a hotel room in advance, but instead decided to find one by just visiting different hotels and picking the first one we really like. After a couple of unsuccessful tries we settled on Monte Kristo, a small but cute hotel situated in Riga's Old Town.
As they were all out of double rooms, Monte Kristo's friendly receptionist offered us a discount on a sizeable triple room on the ground floor. The room was quite comfortable with soft beds, a TV, a stereo system and a minibar. There were heavy drapes to keep the morning sun out and enough cupboard space (including a safe) to suit our needs. The bathroom was suitably large with all the necessary amenities - towels, bathrobes, a stash of soap and a hair-dryer. Although its floor could have used a more thorough cleaning, we were still quite satisfied.
However, we also encountered two negative issues. Firstly, hotel room doors are opened via keycards. On our first day, a hotel visitor entered our room by mistake with her keycard, although the door was locked from the inside at the time (!). We don't know if this is only the case with our room or if all the visitors can enter everyone else's rooms. If so, then it is quite a serious security problem.
Secondly, contrary to what some previous reviewers have said, breakfast really wasn't that good. The cheese and ham selection was bland and seemed past its due date, the orange juice tasted watery, not to mention lifeless room temperature milk, tasteless tea and substandard yoghurt (why can't Latvian own yoghurt be offered instead of German products devoid of any nutritional value?).
Apart from those two embarrassments, our overall experience was a positive one and Monte Kristo gets a cautious recommendation from us - pleasant, but not perfect!

Have just arrived back from Riga and had to write straight away. The Hotel is great, perfect to see the whole town. Its quite a small hotel and our room wasn't paticularly big, but was very clean and tidy.
The receptionists are very friendly and there are plenty of leaflets about the town in the hotel.
We took the bus 22 from the airport to the Old Town. It costs 0.20Lvl (about 20p) each, bear in mind they will also charge you for your bags - again 0.20Lvl per bag. The journey is about 30 mins. The bus stops outside the Stockmann Shopping centre and opposite you can see the hotel.
Breakfast was continental - ham / cheeses / yogurts. They do have a toaster there and also hard boiled eggs / frankfurter sausages / pancakes and fruit.
Would definately stay here again.
