I stayed here looking to get away from the typical Hilton/Marriott/Sheraton/Swisshotel business trip grind. It is, as everyone has noted, in an INCREDIBLE location. The public spaces of the hotel are also really gorgeous (the foyer, restaurant, bar, etc). BUT, I found my room to be disappointing - there was never enough light and there was no window. I'm sure the rooms vary (my coworker had a much nicer 2-floor room that had natural light). In general I would say that it wasn't really "cosy" enough - but it was very beautiful and grand.
Also, they are just not really set up for business travelers at all - the "business center" is basically one computer and the lack of light in the rooms makes working impossible.
They also seemed to be missing some key things for leisure travelers - notably, they had the entertainment guide from last month, but couldn't help out with things happening in Quito for the month I was there.
All in all, if I was on a vacation trip, I might stay there. But for the price, I would probably find a smaller B and B in the Old City (or maybe in a nicer new neighborhood like Coruna). And I would probably pay less money. For business, sadly, I am back to the Hiltons/Marriotts/Sheratons/Swisshotels.

We had three 1-night stays here and one 2-night. The 4 rooms were reasonably comfortable, tho' we found the split-level room inconvenient. Reception staff were friendly, and very helpful in tracking down a tour operator who had let us down one day.
There was a good choice of food for breakfast. We had no other meals there, preferring to eat out - there are several good restaurants within 5 minutes walk, though options are limited on Sundays.
The best thing about the hotel is the location - right in the old city.

stayed at this hotel for two nights before & after my galapagos trip, my "tour" company had booked me at the Hilton in Quito but I had a free night before and after the tour so chose to stay here instead
I definitely prefer this hotel vs. the Hilton, my room the 1st time around was a split level loft style room with a living room downstairs and the bed upstairs, the room faced the street garcia moreno but noise was not an issue
food at the hotel was ok while I found the sauces to be delicious everything I ordered was a tad overcooked, but what I liked about the hotel was the location (a block or two from the main historical quito sights), the ambiance (you definitely know that you're in Quito and don't wake up wondering where you are, as I do often in chain hotels), internet access is free (unlike at the Hilton), and while I was told there's a 5 star hotel a couple blocks away (where the restaurant Mea Culpa is) I was pretty happy with my choice of the hotel patio andaluz and would recommend it to anyone that likes hotels with a bit of a history & personality
by the way the hotel can arrange for taxi pick up for US$10 (the normal rate is US$5) but don't use a tour company to arrange for airport transfer, I asked Metropolitan (the largest Ecuador travel company & lindblad's local agent) for airport transfer & they quoted me US$50!!

After exploring Quito for many days, I submit that this location is about the best for staying in Quito. Right in the middle of the gorgeous old town, you are in the midst of the historic center of the city. The hotel itself is beautiful. The room was not tremendously comfortable but to stay in a classic old beautiful hotel -- I'd take that compromise any day over an international chain.
