We booked this hotel in the spring after reading all the very positive reveiws posted in the last year or so.
Then during May and June we read with horror the negative comments that appeared on this site, and at one stage we seriously considered changing our accomodation.
However, we decided not to, and to be totally honest we found our decision to definately be the right one.
The hotel is in a prime location in the resort, facing the marina, and only 3 minutes walk from the beach. It is very modern, furnished to a high standard and is kept meticulously clean by the hard-working staff. The pool is really well designed and laid out : there are enough sun beds for everyone,in fact the pool area only became busy late afternoon with people returning from the beach.
The rooms were very comfortable and spacious (including the beds!) and cleaned every day. They supply towels for the pool which was very useful, and linen was changed every 2 days.
The breakfast and evening buffet meals provided a good choice , with a wide variety of fresh, well cooked and prepared food. We had intended to eat out once or twice, but felt that the hotel food was better than we had seen in the local restaurants.
The evening entertainment provided was on the whole very good, the chinese acrobats were excellent!
We had a most enjoyable 2 week holiday at this hotel, and would have no hesitation in reccomending it to our family and friends.
What we find really hard to understand is how it people posted negative reveiws on this hotel recently. It seems that their main criticisms were on the food and the price of the drinks at the bar.
But when you consider that most of these reveiwers come from the north of England, you can understand it.....there were no fatty pies, chips or mushy peas on the menu, and the drinks cost about the same as we pay down South anyway!

We have just come back from spending a week at the Valentin Star Hotel and would like to share our experience with others looking for a good hotel to spend their holidays. This hotel was very clean and the staff were very friendly. The entertainment which I understand is only on in July and August, was very good. We would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to anyone. Even the food (which has come in for a lot of criticism on the reviews) we felt was quite good. If you want cordon bleu then its not for you but bearing in mind it was a buffet and how many people they were catering for, we felt it was more than acceptable. Even our fussy teenage girls found something to eat each evening. OK sometimes it wasn't particularly hot and by the end of the week I was a bit bored with it but I still feel on the whole it was pretty good. The pool was lovely and the staff tried to encourage people to join in with activities during the day (not many could actually be bothered though).
Yes the drinks by the pool were on the expensive side but no more than we expected. Don't buy a packet of crisps though cos that will cost you ?2!!
If we ever visit Menorca again we would have no hesitation staying at the hotel again.
The only negative point I would make is that our terrace area was not as good as some of them and did have an unpleasant smell. This didn't bother us though cos we spent all of our time around the pool area.

As with all the others that had been checking these reviews we were concerned. We visited this hotel in 2006 following its refurbishment and it was excellent.
Now 2 years later due to an overbooking by Thomas Cook we decided to revisit the hotel.
The food was the huge concern in previous reports in months leading to june, but they had just started to change before our visit in july. We remenber that the hotel provided an excellent choice of foods that were of good quality. We found this to be the same case during this visit. Many of the staff within the hotel were there in 2006 and most of the resturant staff even remembered us. The freshly cook selection was excellent even with fresh asparagus. The ?3 each for the pool view outside dining is certainly a bit of a cheek but if your willing to pay the extra then thats your parogative.
Pool areas was again fantastic, clean and well kept. No problem with getting a sunbed.
The evening entertainment was OK but we had seen some of them on our previous visit so we went out most evenings.
As everyone is saying the drinks ARE expensive, but hey...just go out to one of the local bars. The cost of a beer varies from ?3.25 to approx. ?4.5 in the local bar. One large beer in the hotel was ?5.10. It is a good quality 4 star hotel though. Prices in the entire resort have gone up over the past 2 years so just be aware.
The rooms are very well appointed even with a LCD TV. Our room did have a bit of a funny smell (not bad enough to complain).
Every member of staff was friendly and professional.
Summing up:- Very good 4 Star Hotel with excellent staff. Good food and a good location. I would recommend this hotel to any of my friends if they were to visit Calan Bosch.

As with many others we were worried about some of the recent reviews-HOWEVER there is nothing to worry about. The hotel, pool, food and surroundings were lovely. We spent some days lazing around the pool and there were always plenty of sunbeds. The hotel provides pool/beach towels so don't pack any. There are also a good selection of english books that can be borrowed.
There are 2 beaches within walking distance and we preferred Son Xoriguer, there are water sports there and several restuarants.
Ciutadella is a short ride on the bus and cost 1.7 euro per person each way. We spent a lovely morning there wondering around the many shoe shops and having a lovely meal down by the port.
The food at the restuarant we thought was much better than several 4* hotels we had been to before with lots of choice and offering more unusual fair. Having said that there was still pizza etc for the unadventerous. Drinks were quite expensive but the measures in the pizzeria-just outside the hotel were enormous and so one or two lasted all evening.
We had a lovely relaxing holiday and would consider going back so what more can I say!!
