Handy to the city bustle

The hotel is situated right by the main shopping area and you can walk anywhere from it.
They have two doormen that act as security and the front desk is manned by chilians that can speak average english. Enough to understand you and to reply helpfully at least.
The entrance and seating in the main part is spacious and easy to relax in as long as a tour group doesn't arrive. Then you could have problems fighting for a seat, but hey, how often do you sit in the entrance chairs.
The bedrooms are interesting but comfortable. Decor not to our liking but we were only sleeping there so it didn't really matter. Bathrooms are O.K. and everything worked. There was aircon but we couldn't tell if it worked or not. So we opened the windows. Views from our room were the side streets so we did get a bit of noise but nothing that kept us awake.
Beds were comfortable and clean.
We did order coffees etc and that was fine. Came quickly with pleasant service. We didn't eat there as we wanted to eat in the town so can't comment on the food. They appeared to have two eating resturants.
We didn,t get breakfast as we left at some ungodly hour (4.0am)for the airport but the front desk was manned and they did provide us with biscuits and coffee which was cold unfortunately.
They did call a taxi for us and quoted a price but I had remembered how much it had been from the airport to them so said that was what we were going to pay. Deal done, but it annoyed me that they had quoted bigger than the normal price.
The hotel itself is very handy to the shops and eating places.
We could also walk to attractions around the city from it with no hassle.
There's a little local market just opposite the front entrance which you could buy local craft. Also local fruit sellers in the side street so you could buy fresh fruit etc from them. All very cheap.
We felt safe there, well looked after, and they do try their best.
Have stayed there three times in the last year and would do so again.
There is a main square two blocks in the city centre and people go there with their art to sell. Worth going just to feel the ambience of the people and city. Plus you see the police on their horses wandering around.

We stayed at the Fundador during our tour of Santiago, Chile. The hotel is located near the city centre with many sightseeing locations nearby such as Palacio de La Moneda, Museo Catedral Metropolitana, and Cerro Santa Luc?a.
We were greeted by a charming concierge at the reception desk upon arrival at the hotel. He was very proficient in English, and even cracked a quick joke. Though the maids could not speak English, they still tried their best to provide assistance when asked.
The hotel is split into two buildings, and we stayed in the newer of the two. Our room was outfitted with lush European-style furniture. Despite the elegance, the beds could have been more comfortable. The bathroom was classy and extremely clean. We had some trouble in our room with connecting to the Wi-Fi network, but there were chairs and small tables in the hallway where wireless access was fine.
The complimentary hot buffet breakfast was tasty and plentiful. Dinner at the hotel restaurant was a bit pricey. However, there was a great Italian restaurant just a few steps down the road with affordable good food. It's hard to beat $2 pisco sours.
Overall, it was a nice hotel with excellent service. Even a week after our stay, we were grateful for the staff's help in retrieving a personal item that we accidentally left behind in our room. We would not hesitate to stay there again.

The hotel has a very good location, It is located at Paris-London neighbourhood, a very beautiful one. But it is essentially old, it is being slowly refurnished. Rooms are nearly destroyed, elevators are old.
The AC does not run very good. Breakfast is very poor.

We staid in the hotel when we were touring with a group of friends in Chili,
The rooms were clean but very small. We had hardly place to put our luggage. The airco was very noicy. But this was nothing compared with what we experienced at dinner. We choice two bottles of red wine which was priced on the wine card for 8,300 pesos. When we got the bill we were charged 22,000 pesos! The waiters argued that the prices on the list were without taxes ... but other people at our table did pay the exact price as mentioned on the card. Obviously we refused the bill before we spoke the manager. The day after we had the discussion with the manager who explained that "we are in Chili" and that tax is due if you do not pay in USD??? When we argued that other people at the table paid in cash and in pesos he proposed to give a discount .... but it then got even worse when one of the waiters came with the wine list that, instead of 8300 pesos, showed a revised price of 9100 pesos for the wine we had chosen the night before .. (forgery??) .. at the end we paid the 18200 peso converted in USD. Luckily we did not experience this kind of problems in the other regions of Chili.

We stayed at the Fundador in two different occasions and it has been a very nice surprise. the hotel was much better than expected.
we have slept the first time in a standard room (nr. 520), recently renovated, very spacious and confortable.
on the second time, they offered us (for no surcharge) a suite (nr. 220) which was as new as the other room, but very spacious and very confortable. this accomodation had, however, two problems:
it was on the second floor (which in chile means the actual 1st floor, since they don't have "ground floor"), so that you don't have any view;
at night, you could hear music coming from somewhere near the room (maybe a nearby disco).
I certainly do recommend the Fundador, for the good service, the great location, and the confortable rooms. just be sure to have a room from the 3rd floor up..
