Needed a cheap place to stay whilst visiting Sheffield with my son and this place fitted the bill perfectly- £45 internet rate.RO.
Although we arrived at 9pm, they held the chef back so we could get a bar meal. Good food reasonably priced and the house wine was OK too. Room ( a twin) was large, clean and comfortable with everything working. Breakfast -over £9 not cheap but good. Staff welcoming and friendly plus eager to help. Will happily stay here again

This was our first trip to the Peak District of Derbyshire and it was most satisfactory too.
We stayed at The Sandpiper on the outskirts of Chesterfield which was close enough for convenience but without the usual noise you get in a town centre location.
The room we had was warm, clean and cosy. The decor was modern with pastel shades and light oak furniture.
As we were out and about for the three days of our stay we decided to have breakfast and return in time for dinner.
Breakfast was the usual full English affair with plenty of choice and was piping hot. Good start to a long days sightseeing!
Dinner was a leisurely affair with an interesting and reasonably priced menu and a suprisingly good wine list too.
I can hartily recommend the food; well cooked, and nicely presented.
The staff were friendly and very helpfull (one young waitress called Sue was particularly helpfull and gave use instructions on how to find the 'plague' village of Eyam) .
All-in-all very good value.

we went there as a couple for the New years eve weekend package.
This was supposed to entail a 'party' on the 30th and a 'dinner dance' on New years eve. What we got was nothing like what we expected.
Upon arrival we had to sidestep past a hourd of staff smoking outside the front doors. After waiting for reception to finish their cigarettes we were given an 'itinery' and a room key. The room are situated in what looks like a motel block, there are entrance doors to each block which contain 3 rooms, 1 on lower floor and p2 upper. We were given a double room (we had the lower floor room of 3) the room itself had poor furnishing and decor and was like a chalet; the walls were tinged yellow and the bath and toilet hadnt been cleaned for what seemd the entire year. Oh and it was FREEZING, they hadnt bothered to heat it up for our arrival. The other odd thing was the door key, our room key opened the main door to the 'block' of rooms, AND it opened our own room door. So other room keys must have also opened the main door, so were all keys the same?? This I will never know, but its strange nevertheless.
Anyway, we settled in and put on the heating and had a quick rest in a really cheap and uncomfortable bed. Then we got ready for the party with a buffet. The buffet on this night was okish but odd again, they had 3 mains, they served you, not help yourself. The mains were beef curry, a hot vegetarian casserole, fish pie, and chicken chasseur,. Sounds ok, but wait, the accompanying veg was ..Tomatoe slices, coleslaw and ptotoe wedges. I had a bit of the fish pie and some chicken chassuer, Now, another odd thing, the chicken meat in the chassuer tasted of fish, it had obvioulsy been cooked with the fish pie. really off putting.
The dessert was ok. Nothing amazing.
The party that ensued consisted of remaining sat at your table listening to the resident DJ playing sons through the hotel pa system which was disotorted and the dance floor was tiny, 8x6 approx. Most people left and went to the Railway pub over the road..(including us) yes it was THAT good!
Oh well, we went to bed and hoped New Years Eve would be better.
31/12/06 The breakfast was great in the morning, some things not on the buffet I would normally see (such as fried eggs/baked beans) but otherwise it was substantial. In the evening I went to run a bath, COLD water, I rang reception who told me to wait, it was because everybody was using it at the same time! this was at 5.45, the evening events didnt even start til 7.30! so, I waited, and waited, and waited, til I couldnt afford to any longer, at 6.15 I had a lukwarm bath, and washed my hair in lukewarm water.
My other half got in the shower at 7.00pm, and it was boiling. (typical). Anyway, for the New Years Eve 'dinner dance' the pre dance meal in the same restaurant as the previous evening (fanshawes). I assumed that the meal must be here and the partying in another room with a larger dance floor and better sounding disco. I ws wrong. The whole event in this room. Iwas dissapointed as its not what I call a dinner dance! Also the webpage to me, indicated the use of the larger suite for the party. That was used but they held another New Years Eve party in there, in essence seperating us all. Some guests complained to me they were put in an annex and were also maddend they could only smoke outside, in the cold. The food was ok, for me, I had sea bass, but my partner had beef wellington whch was tought as old boots! It was fun to watch about 30 odd people cram onto the dance area though. The next day, in our itinairey was a brunh 10-12. I went at 11. . to find the hot food gone, no bacon etc, and what there was, shelled prawns, cold fish and ham. the places were not reset from previuos diners, i sat with no fork, was not offered toast or coffee until i asked. I heard others also complain there was no hot food left. Oh well. We checked out, when i took the key back, there was nobody on reception but I did see all the staff enjoying breakfast! I left the key and we went home. Would not go back. These are my opinions and events as I saw them.

We were booked for only one night. The room was clean and comfortable and ready when we arrived. The service was generally good but, due to our stay coinciding with a wedding reception, the breakfast service in the morning was a bit overwhelmed and therefore slow. Overall, though, a good value for the money.

Very friendly and helpful staff, good food. Disappointing room, ideal for business person or people passing through. We wanted a night away (escape from kids), but were disappointed with hotel location and room. We were upgraded from standard double to executive double, but shower was faulty, receptionist did offer to swap our room. Asked for extra pillows and were supplied within 10 minutes. Service really was good.
