We stayed at Hotel Baltzar for one night in September. You can't beat the location. It's right in the middle of it all.... which is mostly a good thing (more on that later!).
The check-in woman was very, very nice and efficient. The room was clean and tidy. I loved that it was an older hotel with a "real" key and old elevator. The feel of it all was very cool.
The breakfast was fantastic. We went on to stay at 4 more hotels on this trip, all of which were larger and "fancier" and their breakfast didn't compare to Hotel Baltzars.
Now, the negative. It was in SUCH a good location that it was extrememly loud at night. The weather was such that we had to keep the windows open and the noise from the street made for a fitful night's rest. At 4am, there were drunken people coming from the bars singing at the top of their lungs.
Other than that, great experience!

Hotel Baltzar could not have been in a better location. Just a couple of minutes walk to the train station but right in the heart of the best part of Malmo. The room was really big (bigger than places I have stayed in Europe) wtih high ceilings and a sitting area. They were helpful (we needed a baby cot) and had a good breakfast included. I thought the price was right on for what we received. Contrary to other reviews- we did not find the entrance hard to find. It's not huge but its pretty straight forward, its just on the side of the building instead of on the corner but on the main street. As for the noise, we slept two nights with the windows closed and heard nothing, and the third night we left a window open and heard people talking as they left the bars- but that was kind of our own fault. We were really pleased with the hotel and would definitely recommend it- very cool, very clean, and very good location!

I booked this hotel after reading reviews here and I was not disappointmed. Malmo is a great place for a short break as everything is within easy walking distance. I found out after arriving that it would be as simple to get to the centre of Malmo from Copenhagen airport than Malmo airport as there is a regular 24 hour train from the airport at Copenhagen whereas we had to get a taxi from Malmo as we arrived late in the evening when public transport had finished. This hotel is right in the centre of the pedestrianised shopping centre in Malmo and near all the local restaurants but is still quiet. I had one of the best breakfasts here than anywhere else I have experienced. There were bowls of fresh oranges with an electric juicer to make your own fresh orange juice which was a lovely touch. Good accommodation at a very reasonable price.

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at Hotel Baltzar. We were given a non smoking room on the second floor. Our first impressions of the room were that it bore no resemblance to the internet photographs. The bathroom was tiny with a wet room shower that covered the floor area with pools of water, around the toilet bowl, sink area etc. As this didn't drain away very efficiently you had to do a lot of "drying up" or the next person using the room would have been walking through pools of water.
The bed was quite soft with "dips" where you slept making an uncomfortable sleep. What we found strange was that the key to our bedroom door also opened the door to the main street. Does this mean that if everybody's key opens the door to the main street then everybody's key must open everybody's elses bedroom door?
The staff were very pleasant in the hotel. There was a very good breakfast. Lots to choose from. The internet was available and the staff at reception were able to print off our airline tickets via the internet for us.
The hotel is situated right in the middle of the pedestrian areas and also beside the Lilla Torg. However this caused great problems as every night until after 3 a.m. the screaming and shouting of the late night revellers was unbearable as they passed beneath our open windows. As there is no air conditioning in the hotel you have to have your windows open. It is a lovely hotel except for the street noise.
