I was booked into the Sorrento for a business trip by my company. I have since contacted them to tell them they shouldn't book any of my colleagues there, which sums up my feelings about the place.
The location in terms of its proximity to cambridge was good, however it is situated on a main road, meaning the noise with the windows open was constant. My room overlooked a side road, on the opposite of which was a rather noisy pub.
The noise was not too bad for me however, as I had to keep the windows shut as the room was so cold (yes it was August but the weather was terrible). I spent most of the time in my room under the blankets to keep warm.
The room itself had ample storage for clothes etc but was small and dingy. The shower took about 5 minutes to warm up. The TV, which was advertised as satellite did not even receive channel 5.
On the plus side, the staff were friendly and the food in the restaurant was quite nice. Plus there was a big car park.
If anyone is thinking of staying here my top tip would be to take earplugs!

The room was way too small and felt more like a room in a student house than a hotel. Shabby decor, tiny bathroom, a very small TV with no remote and located practically in the reception area, so very noisy. Very disappointing.

This hotel is basically a couple of converted houses in a terrace. A strange feeling inside. The room was of a moderate size, but the bathroom was terribly cramped. I had a double bed which was actually made of two matresses which was rather uncomfortable!
Location was too far out of the centre, and a bit too much of a walk.
There doesn't seem to be much choice in good hotels in Cambridge, but you should be able to do better than this!

I had to arrange my stay in Cambridge at the last minute, and the local tourist office booked the Sorrento. This hotel is located in a residential neighborhood with small shops, far away from the tourist areas. The neighborhood seemed rather shabby at first glance but it’s really not too bad -- I didn’t have a car, so I got to know the neighborhood fairly well as I made the long walk (about 45 minutes) to the more historic part of town. Taxis and buses are readily available, however. The good points: The bed was comfortable. The room and bathroom were clean, and serviced everyday. The bathroom was extremely large, with a nice tub/shower, and decorated with pretty Italian tiles. The bad points: The front desk staff was not friendly and sometimes hostile. Internet access was ridiculously expensive. The room was small, with only enough space for the bed, a wardrobe, a tiny table, and a TV mounted high up on the wall. The press for ironing clothes was either broken or extremely inefficient. The room had poor ventilation, so I usually kept the small window open even though it overlooked a noisy street. I think the entire hotel must have poor ventilation because they kept the front doors wide open all day long, and this has led to some mildew and excessive wear in the entranceway. I ate dinner in the hotel restaurant one night, and while the meal was fine it was expensive. Because the bad points outweigh the good, if I go to Cambridge again I won’t be staying at the Sorrento.

This place is not very good. Very small, poorly furnished, hot room, (303) with a shower that needed a good clean, new door and which only dribbled water. Lack of shelves in the shower room apaprt from one plank alid over the WC cistern. No remote for the TV, paper thin walls, uncomfortable beds. Looked like a converted bedsit.
The food was acceptable, although not very good value, and the staff quite friendly. Tables in the bar full of dirty ashtrays….avoid at all costs as it’s not even cheap! Would be OK if you were a student paying next to nothing for rent.
Bar staff making private (I think) phone calls while I was waiting to spend some money made it more interesting.
A previous reviewer mentioned the area was safe to walk around but I don't think it's that safe.
