This hotel has recently been refurbished to a high level. The furnishings are 4-5* with brand new wooden floors, furniture, comfy beds and plush duvets and pillows. It still even smells brand new! I was in a single room which was double sized by European standards with a massive kind single bed.
The location is great - 2 mins walk from the main square and shops.
Staff friendly, and really, the best 3 star European Hotel I have stayed in - and trust me I have stayed in many.

We stayed at the Hotel Merkur for a weekend in June 2008, Baden-Baden is a wonderful town with lots to see and do.
The Location of the hotel is about as good as it gets in Baden-Baden, a few minutes walk from the pedestrian area and within easy reach of all the main attractions of the town. Parking around the hotel is not really possible so if you arrive by car then expect to have to pay for the hotel parking at 8 EUR per night.
The rooms were recently renovated and have a nice modern feel to them, they are very clean and well maintained. Unfortunately our room overlooked the street and directly below our window was the Tapas bar of the hotel that had drunken people standing around outside (Presumably smoking as that is banned inside) and talking rather loudly until the early hours of the morning. Closing the windows helped a lot but with no air conditioning then this may not be an option on a hot summer night.
The breakfast is a fairly standard German breakfast buffet. Bread buns, cold meats, cheese and fruits. Hard boiled eggs were also available and cereals. The breakfast room is nicely decorated and the staff are very helpful.
Overall this was a very nice hotel for a three star, we would definitely consider staying again.

Great hotel, modern updated decor with flat screen plasma television, very clean, on quiet street, reasonably priced (at least when we were there-off season) and breakfast was included. Parking is extra. Staff very helpful including housekeeping and front desk and breakfast staff. Bathroom cramped, hair dryer did not work and we noticed the china serving pieces were almost all chipped for the breakfast. There is an English speaking premium channel on tv for free provided. It is a block off the main promenade but within easy walking distance of shopping restaurants, casino and spas!

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Merkur over the Valentine's Day weekend and loved it! The decor of the public spaces (as well as our room) was modern and very attractive and the hotel was very comforatble and clean. The hotel staff was very friendly and accomodating, presenting us with a map of the town (the spas, casino and other sights are within walking distance of the hotel) which was very helpful. The breakfast buffet included a very good variety of choices (meats, cheeses, breads, yogurt, boiled eggs and juice) and a choice of coffee or tea. It's a great hotel and we will definitely stay there again!
