I don't know why I'm writing a review on the Strudlhof really. It doesn't really inspire me, and I can barely remember my stay, even though it was only 6 days ago. But sometimes when you're travelling on business, all you want from a hotel is a good night's sleep in a convenient location, somewhere to park your car safely, reliable internet access, a decent breakfast and no hassle at check-out. I got all of these, and for a sensible price - ?70 on Expedia - which compares very favourably to the astronomical rates being asked by properties anywhere closer to the historical centre. It was interesting to see the review from the family from Hungary. I can see how it might not quite be right for them, as it feels very much geared towards the business traveller and to conference guests. There is not much recreation available at the hotel (just a small gym and damproom on the top floor), and you have to go some distance from the Strudlhof to find anything of interest. That 15 minute walk if you're on your own can turn into half an hour with 2 young kids, and it's actually not such a pleasant walk into the centre from there. I don't sound that enamoured by the Strudlhof, but I still give it 4 stars because it's exactly the kind of place I like when travellling alone on business. Yes, it's boring, but it performs its function perfectly, and I'd stay again when in Vienna.

Hard to write review about this hotel but I will stress that the property is modern, in a very quiet residential area across the road from Liechtenstein museum Region 9 and imaculately clean. Had bad experience on arriving as they had overbooked. This hotel building is similar to Ibis Hotels. On entering there is small foyer with reception desk, on one side it is also used as Bar tea/coffee area. Note there is no restaurant or food served except Breakfast. Buffet breakfast which included cereals, juices, yougurts, meat, cheeses, fruit, breads, jams, small selection of hot food. You can request boiled egg to your liking. Had small selection of dietery foods. All excellent. Bedroom spacious with safe, Sky TV. Bathroom with bath/shower and seperate toilet all very clean. Air conditioning on/off switch not visible. In our room it was under grill at window. Restaurant & bars, tram to centre about 3 minute walk away. When we got our bearings, we used Tram D to bring us in & out of city centre. Also note if you intend to stay in this area on a Sunday, there are no restaurant or bars opened except at the Liechtenstein Museum which we were told later is very good. Overall, there is nothing wrong with this hotel but our initial experience at check in put a damper on it. I don't think I would stay here again because it is a little too far out of city centre for atmosphere and I didn't feel as if I was in Vienna.

From the moment we arrived at the Strudlhof Hotel it was clear we were not welcome with our two small children. We were greeted at the reception desk by a woman who looked at our two boys, ages 5 and 2, and said, "Nobody informed us you had children. Now we're going to have to make up extra beds for them." She then went on to say. "Next time you need to make sure you give us all the details about who will be staying in your room." (We of course reserved a room for 2 adults and 2 children in advance, but that details was overlooked by the hotel.) On our last morning in the hotel, we went down for breakfast and tried to sit at a table far from the handful of business travellers. Upon choosing a table at the far end of the room, one of the servers came charging towards us with her finger raised and shouting in German saying, "You can't sit there! This is only for lunch!!" We then tried to pick another table only to receive the same response from the woman. Finally she sat us next to two business travellers who became immediately agitated with our two young children who made too much noise for them. One of the men stood up and said to our 5 year old, "BE QUIET! I'M TRYING TO EAT MY BREAKFAST IN PEACE!" Yes, if you are travelling with a family, you would be well advised to avoid this hotel. They do not want you there, and they make that point clear from check-in to check-out.

We booked this hotel via our office in Vienna and altough this was business trip my collegue and I added the saturday to the trip to see Vienna. We had a great time. The hotel is great. It's not in the city center however when I will go with my wife once to Vienna I will probably book this hotel. It's great located and there is one nice restaurant nearby: CENTIMER III (check www.centimeter.at) We had a great simple meal over there. Schnitzel with fries and beer. The breakfast in the hotel is great and really everything is OK here.

Este hotel, aunque no se encuentra en pleno centro de Viena, está muy bien comunicado, y se puede ir andando o en tranvía. Es un hotel muy bonito, las habitaciones son muy amplias y nuevas. El trato del personal muy bueno, la limpieza, el desayuno.. Todo magnífico. La relación calidad-precio, excelente. En definitiva, recomiendo este hotel a las personas jóvenes, grupos de amigos que quieran visitar Viena.
