Stayed here for 2 nights. I've learned that most European hotels do not come right down to the street level. So, there'll be 4 or 5 steps to pull your luggage up to enter the lobby. The lobby is clean and modern and lots of pretty purple accents. The lobby's fireplace is very cozy too. Free internet in a small room off of the lobby was a plus. Sumptuous breakfast buffet, free waffles from 3 - 6 pm, and free dinner buffet from 6-9 pm. The front desk called the dinner buffet "middag" and said it wouldn't be up to our standards for "dinner" but then again, we're not from Buckingham Palace. The dinner buffet of 2 or 3 hot entrees, sides, cold salads, fruit, dessert, was fabulous for our needs- so tired from a long day of sightseeing! Fantastic location, right on the waterfront and lovely room view. Only complaint would be that the room was very small, and the bed was rather small for two people. Perhaps you can ask for two twin beds instead to give you more room. Lovely toiletries, relaxing health club area too.

We spent two nights at this hotel. Bergen is a wonderful place to visit and the location of this hotel is perfect. However: 1. The parking is not onsite. We are required to walk over to the Radisson hotel across the street to get to the parking lot. Well, we should have stayed there! At least Radisson has free internet. 2. There is no air conditioning. It was HOT in Bergen when we visited. I don't like the "we don't really need it" attitude. 3. The room is so small and impractical. We stayed at an ordinary room, not a suite. But there is not even a functioning desk for me to use my laptop. There is a table between the two chairs but the height of it is not suitable to be used as a desk when one sits down on the chair. So I had to use my lap to support my laptop. Also, there is only one outlet I can use by the bed. This forced me to use my laptop while sitting in the bed in a very awkward position. 4. It's supposed to be a nicely designed hotel. Why do they still use carpet?? Carpet is so dirty no matter how you clean it. It made me allergic too. Apart from these, the service was good. But I don't think I'll stay here again.

An unusual review this, as we like this place so much we wanted to review it while still here. And so I write this, sitting in a window seat in room 504, on my iPod Touch, using the hotel's free Wi-fi. This place is so effortlessly good. If you've been to a British Malmaison, then you have the idea.... though this hotel, with its cool Scando take on the plush Mal look, is if anything even nicer. The staff fit perfectly.... Euro-good looking, speak decent English and make you feel at home. If we had one gripe, it was that the fitness room in the basement is under-played and under utilised..... great kit and steam room but bizarrely faces onto a soft seating area. But that is minor. If you want to feel some effortless Scando cool, and not a package tourist, then stay at this hotel.
