I just stayed there the last 3 nights, and since I have to wait at the airport, I'll just write the review now. The hotel is magnificent from the architecture point. From outside, it looks quite imposing. It forms like a circle, and the view from the center is just as amazing. There is a pond and swimming pools in the center. Now, to get to the detail:
The goods:
1. Architecture - as mentioned, great. The lights are beautiful. I think the whole hotel location is great. I spent some mornings jogging in hotel location, and I can tell you that I rarely saw a better landscape.
2. Staff - great. They are very receptive, without making you somewhat uncomfortable. I do not know if it is the hotel or the people there, but no complain from me at all.
3. The room - very clean, and comfortable. The bed is great. The size is quite right. The bathroom is also clean.
The bads:
1. The electricity - I think they do not have an online UPS. Lights went off several times during my 4 days there. Not big issue, but just annoyance.
2. Water - some days, the water is browny. You just have to leave it for several seconds, before you can wash anything.
3. Soundproofing - it is quite new so lots of activities in or near the hotel. Some nights there are bands playing, and you can hear the music so loud.

quite expensive no wonder it is so clean and cozy , but a bit outskirt of Palembang.
It is next to Palembang Trade centre, a -not a big -shopping centre.
It 15 minutes drive from Jembatan Ampera and Mesjid Agung
(the symbol of the city), but you hardly find a taxi in palembang.

Fortress Novotel

From the outside, the Novotel Palembang does look like an imposing fortress. That said, I do like the architecture. And it's more welcoming once you get inside. It's certainly different from your average big box hotel. And the hotel looks goregous at night from the pool area, with all the lights on. The red headboards in the rooms give a different vibe.
The bathrooms are nice... sort, of... there is something wrong with their plumbing. I had brown water flowing through the taps during my last night. I am not making this up. However, the water cleared up again after a few seconds.
Before anyone asks, no, I did not report the incident or make a stink about it. Why not? Well, it was my last night, I never drink from the tap - they have complimentary bottled water in the room - and having to complain in english to a staff whose native tongue isn't english is more trouble than it's worth.
Other than that little incident, everything else went fine. They even picked us up from the mall down the road - with no charge - when we got stuck during a sudden thunderstorm and we called the hotel to see if they could help. (We were seven people with only two umbrellas between all of us.)
