Functional hotel

Hotel was Ok hence the title. I was there on business. Not very scenic if that is what you require. Rooms were fairly spacious. Looked like they were renovated recently. Carpets could do with an uplift . The air conditioning didn't appear effective in any of the 4 rooms I stayed in. If you like the window open at night then ask for an internal/back room as the ones facing the street are very noisy due to passing traffic. Hotel also appears to have some plumbing problems as it took ages for water to drain in the sinks. Didn't use the restuarant but colleagues weren't very impressed with the evening service or meal. Metro is outside and some nice restuarants about 20 minutes walk towards the river and very reasonably priced. A number of vagrants camp out in the road subways and very dodgy women approach men near the shopping areas. Story is that they (usually in pairs) engage you in conversation, suggest a bar, and then you get ripped off for drinks and made to pay. Some taxis charged a lot more than others so suggest you try and agree the price before you get in. Stayed in better hotels but also a lot worse.
a top class hotel

This is one classy hotel and get's top marks for service, amenities and the breakfasts are superb. Less than 50m from metro,2 stops from town taking approx 2 minutes travel. I enjoyed the 3 nights I stayed here and front of house staff are very friendly and attentive.I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and I have stayed in many 4 star hotels that would be put firmly in the shade by Novotel Centrum
could have been nicer

We stayed at this hotel from March 27-April 1 2008 since some of our friends were also staying there. They said it was a 4 star hotel in budapest.. Well, it was no way a four star, more like a 2 star.. the area in which its in, maybe be Budapest, but, its like the harlem of the city (no offense to Harlem). there is graffiti on every wall, a sex toy shop across the street and really tacky stores. I know this sound really snobby, but its not meant to be. Im usually very good about giving true reveiws. The staff is not really friendly at the front desk, their english leaves something to be desired and they dont go out of their way to try and help. For example: the one and only restauraunt which has slim pickings for a menu was open til 11 pm. We got to the hotel around 10:00 pm from sightseeing and we wanted to eat there as it was convenient, but we were told that they could not take us due to the time, though on our last night, one gentleman who obviously was not American was let in at 10:30.. Also, the breakfast buffet was the same everyday, nothing ever changed.. On our last night there, we had an incident where my friend tried using an electrical adapter which for some reason blew a fuse and the lights went out on our floor. We called and the electrician person came up and he went absolutely balistic when he found out we had an adapter? he started yelling at us and pranced into the room without askign permission and started to put lights on and off and stated that americans have too many gadgets and this is why this happens etc. I went to the manager to complain as I thought he shouldnt have gone off on us and shuoldnt have come into a room with two women without permission and basically I got the answer.. well what do you want me to do?? No apology, nothing.. I told him was offended by his actions, but that again got nothing.. so.. think twice about this hotel.. there are many others right in downtown Budapest which is a lovely city and truly not much more money.. If I had known I would be staying in the slums of Budapest I would have thought twice. the only good thing about this hotel was that it was around the corner from a metro station.. but so are many others..

This Novotel is a step above those found in Western Europe. Better finish, more plush reception areas and a HUGE breakfast buffet.
Although not that close to the river, it is easy to get around in the city and nothing is more than 15 minutes away by taxi.
I stayed 2 nights for work and enjoyed my time there. The reception staff were welcoming ,if a little disorganised, and the restaurant staff were attentive and cheerful.
As mentioned the choice at the breakfast buffet is enormous and you'd be hard pushed to go away hungry.
For me the hotel beats the Hilton in the Castle district, which I stayed in a few years ago now, but then the Hilton has that view - unrivalled!

This hotel was way better than we had expected. The staff were all young, friendly and eager to lend a helping hand. The facilities were clean, modern and impressive. The size of our room was huge for European standards and the tourist info machine and concierge in the lobby was great. The hotel also has a fabulous little pool and a gift shop.
The only things missing from this hotel were free breakfast and the hotel could have been just a little closer to the sights. However, it is close to metro and bus lines. The in-house parking was another huge plus. We were able to go straight from the garage to our room without going outside and in a matter of a minute's time. One caution though, if you're planning on bringing a pet with you, beware of the hefty fees. This hotel wanted 25 euros a day to have a pet in your room.
