I stayed at this hotel as I was working in Sydney for a few days. My company booked it for me due to the location being nearby the offices I was working at. The hotel is in an ideal location. It is a short 10 minute walk to the Rocks, Opera House & Bridge, and also only around 10 minute walk to Darling Harbour. (There is also a train station across the road for transport). The lobby is very nice, lots of seating and a grand piano that sometimes has someone playing it. There is also a little cafe there for convenience. The check-in staff were very helpful, gave us good directions and maps to where we wanted to go. The room was adequate, bed comfortable, it was just an average room with nothing special but nothing bad either. The bathroom was quite small but not enough to bother me. The only main complaint I had is that the walls are very thin, so you can hear what is being said in the hallways, and also the plumbing is very noisy. My work collegue was staying in the room directly above me, and I could hear every time she flushed her toilet. Cleaning ladies were very polite when they were passed in the hallway, and the ladies working at the cafe were overly helpful with giving directions to my friend who was picking me up and having trouble. I would be happy to stay here again if the price was right, due to the great location.

I have stayed many times at the Menzies for work. The hotel is easy to reach via rail, and shopping and restaurants are a few minutes walk from the hotel. The rooms are clean and comfortable and quiet. Thoroughly recommended for either work or leisure.

We were only looking for couple of nights in Sydney while we traveled up the coast with our two young children. With only a couple of days we wanted to stay in or near the Rocks. The best deal going was the Menzies winter special. We were met by the bellman who had off loaded our car by the time I had quickly checked in. The room was large, clean and well equipped. The lounge downstairs was excellent. The only time we used the dining room was for breakfast but it too was an outstanding hot buffet, made even better since it came with the room. We did not use any of the hotel services. The hotel is in a an excellent location. Close enough to walk to anywhere (Rocks, Darling Harbour but a little far for Chinatown.) About the only drawback is parking but it may also be great for the area, hard to compare. The garage is accessed by car from behind the hotel but you walk in from the train station across the street and when you leave the garage you are a few blocks from the hotel entrance. It is very confusing if you don't know where you are going. Originally the big draw was the price as compared to others in the area but after staying here I would say that even at a higher rate, this hotel is as good as any in the CBD, and we stopped in a few to compare.

My wife and I stayed at the Menzies Hotel for three nights recently and from the moment we stepped from the cab we were treated as if we were the only guests especially from Andrew who welcomed us. In fact all the staff were excellent right to the cleaning lady who greeted us with a cheery good morning. Menzies your staff are a credit. We'll be back! Regards Derek & Coral Smith
