I stayed 5 nights in this hotel and found it to be a very pleasant stay. The room was larger than many I have stayed in and was suitable for wheelchair access. The pillows were a bit soft but I was able to get a firmer one - buffet breakfast was a good spread and reasonably priced for a hotel.
I used the wireless internet connection available in the bar area and found the staff very helpful when I had queries.
I would stay there again.

Stayed in our nation's capital over May at this hotel which is located brilliantly close to everything. This hotel wasn't my first choice, due to my first choice being unavailable,
The hotel lacks the warmth and finesse that is so much part of many other Accor hotels. The staff are not forthcoming with assistance especially on reception. Staff seem too pre-occupied to acknowledge guests with a simple good morning or good evening.
The rooms however are nice and big, Everything was in good working and most importantly the rooms were very clean. I was bitterly disappointed with the pillows which were as flat as pancakes. Unfortunately, a couple of us awoke many mornings with a headache. Not a good start to the day.
We all had the buffet breakfast which was not memorable. I didn't think there was much variety.
On a last and positive note, we witnessed probably the most gorgeous valet guy ever. That is the memory us boys will take with us from our trip. Would we stay here again??? Probably not...... we may try Rydges next.

stayed in May 2008
The fire brigade and police had the street cordoned off for an hour before we could check in.
Not given a room upgrade even with an Accor group card membership.
Spacious but drab room.Shower curtain and tiles could be cleaner.
Not one to rush back to.Restaurants near by.
Come to that Canbera is drab too.

Have stayed at the Novotel several times, its a great location,
I was impressed with the size of the room and the standard was fine, I wasnt expecting 5 star and it wasnt but its just a 4star but the indoor pool is fantastic.
I didnt eat there this time as we ate in the city (5 minutes walk away).
Cannot complain.

To make a long story short, this is one of the worst hotels in the category I have ever been. Or in other words, you will pay the price of a 4 1/2 hotel for what in reality is about a 2 star hotel (typical IBIS kind of level to have an idea, good if you pay half of the price and you are aware of it).
Only positive note: the staff, if not efficient, is at least very polite and friendly.
