it was my last business trip to Annecy, and this time our company booked the Novotel instead of the Best Western Carlton. If i would have to choose between the Carlton and Novotel, i would prefer the second one (just because it's newer). But i would never book it myself. The main reason is that the rooms were not so clean as they might be. For me only two things really meter during the stay: the bed and the bathroom. This time both things were rather disappointing (they were not clean). The room service, breakfast and staff were okay.

While searching for a hotel at Annecy, the first thing that I noticed was that this little beautiful town didn't get an attention from any of the big brand hotel chains - no marriott, no intercontinental, no hilton. This beautiful hillside town with a charming lake is too good to be ignored by the biggies. I chose Novotel for two reasons - the property was located right next to the station and that this was part of Novotel chain and so some level of service consistency was expected.
Overall, Novotel Atria is possibly one of the best place to stay while in Annecy. It is right on top of the railway station. So you can literally watch if the train has arrived at the platform before leaving your room.
The lake is the primary attraction of the city and that is a quick 15 minutes walk from the hotel. You can cover most of the city's attractions by walk.
One tip- do not try out restaurants at Novotel. A great collection of restaurants and street side food awaits you around the lake area which is just a short walk away.

We have just come back from 3 nights at the hotel and were disappointed with the standard of the rooms. The location is fine (a short walk to the central area) and the reception and communal areas are okay however the room was disappointing. The corridor smelt and the furniture was old and dirty. The carpet was rather horrible and the general level of cleanliness did not feel high. One of the hotels windows had a mattress of some description blocking it rather than glass!!
Having said that the staff were very nice - but please do some renovations soon.
