Stayed at the Novetel for a long weekend with my wife and booked its Gourmet package. Room was a pretty standard double but recently renovated, with a great view of the water. Service was very good, breakfast each morning was buffet style and plentiful. It has a great bar overlooking the water and the hotel building was a former Porter (an old fashioned type of beer) brewery, so if you enjoy beer you must try a bottle. Next door to the hotel is a Michellin starred restaurant and if you book a Gourmet package a three course set-menu meal is included at this restaurant. The food was quite simply superb, but the wine is not cheap, and you have to pay extra for it! The hotel is a little way out from the centre of town and taxis are very expensive (even more that the London black cab) but it is very close to a highly efficient tram system which gets you into town in about 15 minutes. Overall a very good place which I would highly recommend.

Excellent location , would be even better in the summer . Rooms ok , we had on older one facing out the back - so no great view like if you have a river facing room . We had no kettle etc.. but friends of ours did . The bar and restaurant were really nice places to relax with friendly bar staff . The only real down side was the receptionist , we checked in about 4pm on a friday - and God did we feel like an inconvience. It felt like pulling teeth . Our friends arrived the next day , and the staff were so much better at there check in - So I'm thinking just a one off - but beware if you get her !!! You are 5mins by taxi to the centre , but it is expensive about 150 sek - ?12.50 , the tram for day light hours was good and just a 2 minute walk to the tram stop - you need to have coins and the driver dosn't take money - for an adult its 2 tickets and each one you have to pay 12.50 sek for .

We had a family room, 7th floor, with view to construction site (77 storey building under construction?)Never heard any noise though. Bathroom was big with tub, and clean. Hotel was a little hard to find but once we got there, we liked the surroundings by the sea and harbour. Buffet was very good in Carnegie Kaj, hotels restaurant, and the house beer (porter) was delicious too. Transport to Gothenburg center was easy by boat or tram, both about 500 m walk away. I think I would consider other hotel next time, allthough this wasn´t too bad. Maybe it was the room view that put us off a little. There was a big footboll cup going on and I think all hotels were pretty occupied and we got the last room left?

The Novotel is an excellent base for taking in this cosmopolitan city. It is based in a suburb (Klippan) but with the great transport links it is a short trip into the city center. There are frequent trams (3 & 9) into the city center and also a river taxi (located about 200 meters from the hotel). The rooms are fairly large, very clean and the beds are very comfy with lots of storage. The staff on reception are very friendly and helpful. Always happy to help. The best I have encountered on any hotel stay. The restaurant is not the best though. The food we ate here was the worst and most expensive we ate in Gothenburg. Not great at all. There is a great cafe next to the hotel (near the bridge) which has a decked area that is great for people watching while having a coffee or beer. Food is good too. The Haga is the most interesting area of the city with beautiful buildings and great restaurants, bars and cafes. Overall, the Novotel is a great hotel for a very reasonable price. It is great to head into the city center on the river taxi. Very relaxing. It is only 10 mins from the city airport by taxi. I would like to go back to Gothenburg in the summer and would be more than happy to stay at the Novotel again. Good hotel.

Goteborg is a lovely city and a pleasure to visit at just about any time of the year. And if you are looking for a comfortable,friendly and convenient base then look no further than the Novotel at Klippan(which strangely remains the only Novotel in Sweden). It is housed in fine old Carnegie Porter brewery just short of the river estuary and the island archepelegos to the west and is convenient for the tram system and the enchanting little river ferries that ply up and down the river to the Lilla Bomen and to the city centre itself. The rooms at the Novotel are spacious and modern but I would recommend that you specify a River View or you may end up looking straight into a cliff-face. Both the bar and the restaurant provide fine panoramas out over the river and many a pleasant hour can be spent with a glass of wine or three watching the Stena car and freight ferries navigating gingerly up the river. As I write this review I find myself aching to be back there.Now where did I leave my visa card? Enjoy this fine city and this fine hotel. Hej
