Good Hotel...Ok Area

This hotel is a decent, good priced, comfortable place to stay. The rooms are nicely decorated, very clean and offer large beds, cable television and room safes.
The area is not great but has nothing bad either. We found taxis were an affordable way aroudn the city, and the area caused us no problems. If you prefer a better area maybe you should try the savassi area as it is full of shops and restaurants within easy walking distance. I suspect the Mercure in Savassi would be as good as this one.
The pool area was very nice. Indoor, but clean and well presented.
The breakfast is good quality but costs an extra 25 reis per person. Not too expnsive but a hearty brekfast can be found elsewhere much cheaper.
High speed internet access is available but costs 20 reis for 12 hours or 30 reis for 24 hours. This is strange as all the other Mercure hotels we stayed with in Brazil offered free internet in the rooms or foyer.
But generally a very good hotel.
Great stay at the Mercure

I was in Belo Horizonte on business, and stayed at the Mercure on the advice of a local business partner. Upon arrival they were friendly, spoke English (not that common in Brasil), and upgraded me to a junior suite. Bed was comfortable (unlike most Brasilian beds), very roomy, workspace with free internet (ask for code at checkin). Dinner from room service was great, breakfast buffet in the morning (not included in room rate) was large. Large TV in living area, none in bedroom. I did not have the time, but the hotel is close to Savassi (shopping area). I will definitely stay at the Mercure on my next trip. Hotel is part of the Accor Hotel chain.
