This Mercure is not too far from the old city centre, although not as close to it as the likes of IBB Andersia or Domina Residence.
The room is clean and quite well thought-out, with plenty of space to tuck away your suitcases, although the green carpet makes it look a little dated (the rest of the decor looks quite modern, however).
Hanging space in the wardrobe is a little limited, so if you have a lot of clothes to hang, it may be somewhat problematic. One thing I noticed that was rather inconvenient was the coat hanging space was right by the door on the side that door opens from, so it gets in the way a little, but this is probably a rather minor point.
There is a good desk area. The Internet connection point is conveniently located at the desk, alongside two power outlets. Lighting is adequate with various lamps around the room as well as ceiling lights by the door and lights above what could be used as a dressing table.
The bathroom is quite spacious with enough space around the sink to put things on. It is well-lit with a separate shaving/makeup mirror. There are also areas outside the bathroom that can be used as a dressing table with a mirror, which is quite useful. Towels provided in the bathroom are quite far from what I would call plush, but they are not too shabby and quite adequate.
Somewhat unusually for an European hotel, there is a tea and coffee making facilities in the room, including a kettle. This is probably quite well appreciated by those of us who are used to English hotels almost invariably providing this facility.
Room service menu is rather small but some of the things that are on offer are quite good for a 24-hour menu and includes such things as duck and steak. I ordered a duck and it was delivered in good enough time (around 20 minutes) it was quite tasty.
The Internet connection (wired) is included (I do not know if this is always the case) and is of adequate speed, although not super-fast.
Overall, I am finding the stay quite pleasant. Mercure Poznan is probably of a little higher standard than many other Mercure hotels and

Completely renovated old communist style building.
Hotel was better than a lot of other Mercure's I've stayed in. The staff professional and efficient, free internet in the rooms, breakfast excellent with plenty of choice, piano bar.
If attending a trade fair the hotel is located 5 minutes walk from the exhibition halls. It's about a 15 minute walk to the old town square of Poznan.
If returning to Poznan I will definately be coming back to the Mercure.

The Hotel Mercure is about 1km from the Old Town near the main railway station. It was built in the Communist days but has been completely refurbished by the Mercure/Novotel Group. The rooms are well furnished, larger than usual with good quality fittings. The Hotel has a lot of business travellers due the proximity of the Trade Centre. The hotel retaurants are good but lacking in character and atmosphere with Polish cuisine but modified to international tastes. The walk into the Old Town takes 15 mins and goes past some interesting but conflicting architecture, great old European houses and halls from the 18/19th centuries, side by side with concrete communist monoliths depicting 1950's events with modern steel and glass business complexes being newly constructed nearby. The Old Town is full of character and like a mini Prague but much cheaper. A beer and a coffee in a stylish outdoor cafe overlooking the square and Town Hall cost less than £2. For real Polish food eat out of the hotel in one of the old restaurants bordering the square.
