Until they sort out their renovations, don't bother

The hotel is undergoing renovations which started at 7.30am and continued throughout the day (even on a Saturday) - despite the fact that their note on the reception desk said they would not begin until 9am.
NB The word renovation means in this case the sound of 3-4 pneumatic drills at any one time.
The staff weren't interested in rectifying the situation - through either moving our room or a discount on the rate.
The pictures we saw when we booked the hotel were of those rooms which were already renovated - not of those which were offered to us.
The food is OK as are the restaurant and spa area.
Overall I might recommend this hotel when it's all done up but in the meantime, I wouldn't bother as you'll pay 4* prices for a terrible stay.

This hotel is well placed for the old town in Gdansk, but because smoking is allowed in some rooms on alternate floors the rooms and lifts are smelly.
I had the displeasure of staying in a smokey room which made me wake with streaming eyes.
The staff are pleasant and the resturant very good.

This is a very well placed hotel for visiting the pretty old town of Gdansk.
The breakfast was very nice and after having an evening meal in the resturant the service was great.
Now the down side ... the room I stayed in was on a smoking floor and as a non-smoker the beds and room stank. The bathroom was alright but now really needs updating.
If i stay again I'll need to stay in the newly refurbished rooms on the upper floors.

After 5 days in the dreadful run down Dom Aktora, I trailed round Gdansk looking for somewhere to feel pampered. I found Mercure Gdansk, or rather, one of the superior suites on the top 3 levels of the hotel. They have just been refurbished and are wonderful!
Flat screen TV, lovely bathroom with fantastic big shower, mini bar, big wardrobe. The staff were really helpful and understanding and generally the rooms are quiet with great views - you don't need to walk 450 steps to get to the top of St Mary's church -you can get the same view from floor 16, though I only found this out afterwards.
The only down side would be that I could hear the person above me shutting drawers - a lot! And occasionally, a heavy footed individual seemed to be spending a lot of time going back and forwards to the bathroom above me. But then again, I'm really REALLY sensitive to noise so others might not notice this.
I didn't take breakfast, so I can't comment but I think it was 16euros, possibly less.

I stayed four days at the Hevelius and found it to be an excellent choice. Well-located within easy walking distance of the old town and the train station, I could walk everywhere. The room was modern and clean and a good size. The restaurant had very good food. The reception staff was competent and English-speaking. It's a very busy place with lots of business travelers and groups. The drawback was it got a little noisy at night with some guests on my floor -- the walls seemed thin. Also a little pricey but it is a three star hotel. I'd stay there again.
