We picked this hotel because of its central location and the fact that it is a chain to ensure cleanliness. The room was a good size and the bathroom was clean. This was a great hotel well situated in the safe area of op?ra.
The bathroom was small and it will take about 10 minutes to walk to the nearest metro station. Also there are no bakeries near to the hotel (we took the room only option) but these are only minor faults.
We will definitely stay here again!

Small hotel in a quiet street near Place St Augustin and not far to stagger back with the shopping from Printemps and Galeries Lafayette, the big stores on Bd Haussmann. Less than ten minutes stroll the other way gets you to the lower end of the Champs Elysees.
Rooms are small but have recently been refurbished with modern bathrooms, flat screen TV, minibar etc. The staff are pleasant, the only problem being that breakfast was served in the lobby area which gets very crowded.
All in all a convenient, clean hotel in central Paris, reassuringly unremarkable.

Is it just me, or...?
I had booked this hotel very well in advance, over the internet, and also phoned a few days before our stay to confirm. However on arrival, the receptionist told me in a pretty casual manner that he didn't in fact have a room for us, that, no, it hadn't occurred to him to let us know, and that we would have to go and stay in a different Mercure in a different part of Paris.
This was all well and good, but I had a conference go get to in St Denis - quite some distance away - my partner was not contactable, and the hotel didn't even offer to ring a taxi to take me to the other hotel - I had to ask. Then the taxi dumped me somewhere around the Gare St Lazare, because there was some sort of demonstration going on and he didn't want to get into a traffic jam. Of course, I had to pay him, in spite of the fact that I hadn't actually got anywhere, and I also had to go to the conference with all my luggage and without having had a chance to get changed.
Not a great start to our Mercure experience... we thought of cancelling our next Mercure reservation...
As it turned out, the second Mercure (Mercure Stendahl) was rather nice. Good job too. Some small "commercial gesture" might have been in order, however.

Hmmmm! Good point first - good location 15 mins from Champs d'Elysee and only 5 mins from Haussmann. After that it's a small, old-fashioned, unfriendly, unprofessionally run, basic French hotel. Reception staff cold and unfriendly, rooms tiny (and many just painted the day they were "trying" to check people in). Furnishings and roll of carpet left partially blocking the only fire escape staircase, one TINY lift (2 people and a suitcase were a squeeze), breakfast a ?5 value for ?15, bar closed at 11 pm even for residents. Local bars also closed at 8:30 pm on Saturday night and most were closed all weekend.
This was more like a basic 2 star with no tea and coffee in room and no heating in bathroom (a must in February). "View" from most rooms overlooks an scruffy enclosed "hole" between the bits of the building. Public area next to lobby also doubled as breakfast room and bar so no chance of sitting for a chill until after breakfast was finished at 10:30 am.
If you are heading for Paris look for a 2 star or less at a much lower rate and get some value for money.
