We stayed here for one night, while en route to France. The hotel staff were nice enough, the room was good (smaller than other Mercure's) - neighbourhood wasn't great, the room was a bit smoky (even though it is non-smoking), and it just was a touch off of the class we were expecting.
The breakfast was good, but we were asked to leave at 10:30 from the open area where breakfast is served, before we had finished our coffees. Not sure what the harm was in our finishing our coffee (10:30 is when they stop serving breakfast) - it was a bit rude, and not at all what we experienced at another Mercure in our trip. We felt like we were imposing a bit, instead of guests.
Over all, it was ok, but not spectacular.

I've been to Mercure Aachen City for 3 days/2 nights at the end of August.
Travel from the Central Station easy. Plenty of taxis in front of the station.
Hotel: on the corner of some busy streets. very noisy in front.
What I asked: higher floor, quiet, clean, no pets, non smoking.
What I got: 4th floor I think, very quiet, towards the back garden. (Very good choice). Room very small in the attic. With a bit of character. Be careful the building has an L shape and the neighbors can see into your room if you have no covers on window.
The room reminded me of my student days by design and size. Very clean though.
Front desk staff friendly and efficient.
Breakfast good, but the sausage pathetic for Germany. A beer garden is adjacent to the building and in summer can be an attraction.
Last day, I had an early check-out and at my request they provided a plentiful packed breakfast.
Rate correct.

I was in Aachen on bussines with my fiancee. The Hotel is relatively close to the city centre - about 15 minutes walking to the Adalbertstrasse which is the main shopping street. It's about 20-25 minutes walking to the main railway station. We were in a room on the last floor. The rooms are quite small. The faucet that the previous review was arguing about was changed. But the towells seemed so thin like than been used for decades. The wardrobe was also quite small. The TV had one chanel in Chinese, one in English and all the others in German.
The employees seemed quite friendly. The breakfast was really good. Everything was branded (Kellogs, nutella, Philadelphia etc.). As I was attending a conference the price in all the hotels went up and was quite expensive but it's not that expensive when nothing happens in the town.
The hotel is not bad but it surely needs a renovation to be a nice hotel. Still, I would go back to the hotel as there was nothing that really dissapointed me.
Aachen is a quite nice town.
