We stayed here for a one-night stopover on our way back from Provence to the ferry at Calais and found it to be a comfortable and very well-run hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful and our premier room was spacious with tea/coffee making facilities and English satellite channels - handy for catching up with the news and weather after a fortnight away. Although at the front of the hotel on the first floor, it was very quiet and we had a much-needed good night's sleep. The bathroom was also very well-appointed. Particularly useful was the underground parking, despite the extra cost, which was very secure, essential when your car is loaded with luggage, with a lift going straight to your hotel floor. The location was excellent for those turning off the motorway as it is only a few minutes drive and very easy to find. It was also only a short 5 minute walk to central Rheims and the Cathedral for some quick sight-seeing (we found it to be safe although walking back at night as a women on your own might be different). We didn't sample the restaurant but enjoyed a glass of champagne in the bar. As for breakfast, this is always expensive in French hotels but there is a good coffee shop on the right as you walk up towards the Cathedral. However, as my husband didn't want anything, we ordered one breakfast for our room and found there to be plenty for two. All in all I would recommend this as an excellent example of the Mercure chain; you don't get period charm but you do get spacious, well-equipped rooms, clean bathrooms and a good night's sleep. We would certainly return as it seemed ideal for a short break in the city with a car as well a a stopover.

Wow, the aussie reviewer was spot on, the corridors in this hotel are like a sauna(so was the room) and we were here in early January!!
This is the city centre hotel stereotype. High rise, functional, rooms fine and you feel like a ship passing through the night in fact probably more anonymous than that. It was though exactly what we wanted, after a 320 mile drive down the UK's congested motorways and a quick speed down 300kms of French autoroute to Reims a clean room and a city centre hotel for one night was ideal. Ask me to stay here for a week though and I'd want paying!

Nothing wrong with the hotel itself. Staff were really pleasant - especially the restaurant staff. It is a michelin recommended restaurant (at least it was in 2006 anyway), though the food really wasn't up to much, the service was top notch, and I had a really lovely time there. My room was warm and comfortable and quiet (so important). Nothing wrong with the place, but it's not the most attractive of buildings, and the rooms do lack charm, especially for the price. But you get guaranteed good, solid mercure service, so it's a good, safe bet. I didn't like the location though. Although it was only a ten minute walk from the centre, it didn't feel safe to walk to and from town at night - you have to walk through empty car parks and under motorway bridges, and down quiet streets to get there - it even felt a bit dodgy during the day. I know Reims is not such a large town, and it's probably not dangerous, but it still looked like a bit of a run down area on the edge of town, which isn't the most exciting place to spend your holidays!

Perfectly adequate 3 star hotel

I endorse all of the positive reviews so will repeat very little of what has already been previously well said; I also disagree with the negative comments. This is a perfectly adequate, clean and tidy 3 star business type hotel; it’s functional rather than charming but we found the staff were friendly and efficient. We stayed for 3 nights on a wine buying trip and also to visit the Reims Christmas Market. The hotel is very well located being just a 10 minute walk into the city centre and the major benefit for us was the secure underground parking at 10 euros per night. We got a good deal booked via Great Escapes for 3 nights Bed & Breakfast at £42 per night for the room for 2 people including a bottle of Champagne on the first night. I would certainly use it again if visiting Reims.

on the out edge of reims and opposite the river and motorway.
very much a business hotel, yet did not have onsite computer for internet access although they did have payable wifi.
a short walk from the shopping area.
It was ok but we paid quite a high rate of 159 euros not worth it at this price.
it was clean quiet and reasonably modern perfectly fine for business but not nice enough for tourists
