My boyfriend and I stayed for 3 nights and were pleasantly surprised by the standard of the hotel. The room was very quiet, clean and spacious. We didn't bother with breakfast (15 euros) as there are loads of bakeries nearby with delicious cakes and pastries. The location is great - about 10 minutes' walk into the city centre and there is a bus stop just nearby if you need it. The reception staff were extremely friendly and I'm sure they speak English if you need them to. There's a sauna in the basement of the hotel but we didn't use it.

I was unsure why this hotel was so cheap when i booked it. When i arrived, i discovered the entire street in front of it was completely torn up. This was a minor inconvenience though, as my room faced the other way.
Due to the construction, it was difficult to find. At 12,50 per night, parking was reasonable. The room was excellent though, and the interior of the hotel was also very nice.
The main tourist area (near the Dom) was a short bus ride or a nice 15 minute walk. The walk takes you through the shopping areas of Koln.

Just stayed 1 night at the Mercure in a twin room. For the money we paid (?60) it was great, clean, comfortable beds, good bathroom, nice and quiet even though train stop out the front. Location is good, you can walk to the main centre in 15 mins, taxi from airport ?23. Reception was friendly and english speaking as most placed in Germany are. Didnt have breakfast is it was ?15 but aparently its quite good. Would definitely stay again if i went back to Cologne, but I think 1 day was enough, theres not a hell of a lot to do apart from climb the Catherdral.

Great place for new year break

Stayed in the Mercure for New Year 2007.
Excellent, friendly staff. The most comfortable beds you could have wished for.
Only downside to hotel is that it was way too hot.
New Years Eve is a fantastic experience in Cologne - fireworks on the Rhine were awesome.
Will definately be returning next year.

We stayed at the Mercure on a group trip to the Christmas Markets.
Although the hotel is out of the centre it's only 12 minutes walk to the Alter Markt . The hotel has a major subway development taking place nearby but this did not cause us any problems.
The reception area is relatively small and there are queues at busy times.
Our room was of average size with a comfortable bed, the en suite bathroom was small although spotlessly clean Surprisingly the towels supplied were small and not the fluffy ones expected in a 4* hotel. Also missing was any tea/coffee facility and as room service stopped before 23.00 this was an inconvenience.
There were no English channels on the 36 channel TV; given there were Japanese, Spanish, Italian, French and Chinese channels this was very poor. There was a slot for BBC world but this was off line for all our stay.
Breakfast was good with a large selection of hot and cold foods. The breads were particularly good. With the hotel being full the scrum at breakfast meant that people had to be accommodated in the bar or two rather plain overflow rooms.
