After reading reviews about this hotel we were expecting a shabby tired old place. However, due to the fact that Mecure were doing a special room deal of ?69 including breakfast we decided to rough it. This was cheaper than even the B & B'sin Salisbury, The hotel has a free car park and you enter through a lovely courtyard with tables where you can sit surrounded by trees and flowers. Reception was very large with plenty of comfy sofas not in the least scruffy. Hotel staff were very nice and our room was newly refurbished with a brand new bathroom. Breakfast was of a standard of any 4 star hotel we have stayed in with lots of fresh fruit, and all the usual choices of cooked breakfast etc., all served in a clean and very pleasant dining room. We can't say what the unfurbished rooms are like but apparently only 11 are left to receive the new treatment. We had a very nice time in Salisbury and would definately use this hotel again.

Having read some of the reviews we approached this hotel with some trepidation but our fears were groundless. Arrived late Friday to find plenty of room in the car park and a pleasant greeting at reception. Room was big and had been refurbished, very comfortable with everything you needed. Lovely breakfast room, and you could eat outdoors if you wished. Excellent location, being minutes away from anything in cenral Salisbury. Reception very helpful with pubs, restaurants, even best way to cross the road at tricky set of lights outside - customer care!!
Only problem for some would be no lift, although staff were available to help if required. Also wedding receptions were a little noisy until midnight when music switched off but did not bother us.
Only a 2 night stay but would recommend it , although you need to shop around to get a good rate - including breakfast. Would stay there again.

We stayed at this hotel at the end of May while visiting family in the Salisbury area. We were a little worried about what to expect after reading some of the reviews on here but took our family's advice that the White Hart would be the best option in Salisbury and we were glad we did.
Its a lovely old building, full of character and charm. The owners are clearly spending money on it as we had a room which we were told on check in had just been refurnished, and it was lovely.
The buffet breakfast was very impresssive with lots of choice and the cooked breakfast was delicious and hot.
We have nothing but praise for the staff, who were all very friendly and more than happy to help.
We will definitely stay at this hotel again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to friends. The only thing that might let the hotel down is the lack of a lift, which wasn't a problem for us but may be for others, especially if they are staying on the second floor. Otherwise, we have nothing but praise.

We stayed at The White Hart for 1 night and were very dissappointed it is "dreadfully in need of complete refurbishment" which we were advised was ongoing.
We visited the hotel to ask them for the best rate for bed and breakfast and was advised it was ?100.00 for a double room I informed the reception that I could get the same deal cheaper with Late Rooms and would they match the price and they said that they were not allowed to do this.
We were then offered a "newly refurbished double room" for ?110.00 with an opportunity to view a double room that hadnt been refurbished. My husband went to have a look whilst I was on the phone to Late rooms . My husband said that the new rooms were better but the hotel would not allow to have one of these for the same price as late rooms.
I asked late rooms if they could ask for a newly refurbished double room and they said they could but its up to the hotel.
As we needed to book the accomodation quickly we went ahead and reserved the double room for ?80.00.
On check in you guessed it we must have received the "worst room " in the hotel on the first floor. It was shabby, jaded and looked dirty. I was shocked that they had given us this room when I knew that the new rooms were available. The bathroom was old , the bed was the oldest I have seen in years as was the whole of the decor and furiture! Peeling wall paper and dirty curtains etc etc.
Its a shame that this hotel is selling itself short, I have stayed in many Mercure hotels both in the UK and abroad and this is the worst yet. Its in a great location but just needs the refurb to be completed! At the moment the lounge and reception areas are old, tired and in need of some fast upgrading- it looked like an old folks home!
Come on Mercure you can do better than this!!!!
I have included some photos

I had to be very early in the morning at Stonehenge to film. I arrived at this hotel late the night before, and barely slept, worried about not oversleeping. I left before sunrise and out of sheer nervousness struggled to find my way to Stonehenge. It was actually a lot easier to get there than I though. The hotel looked at the time like it could use some renovation. But I remember I liked the old english atmosphere it had. Can't say much about Salisbury, though. Haven't had a chance to find out why they named the steak after this place.
