Very nice hotel, probably the nicest in Turin, but crappy hotel bar

I'm pretty sure this must be one of the nicest hotels in Turin. My room was fabulous: spacious, very clean, bathroom with Jacuzzi, air conditioned, very well isolated for outside noise. Not too much semen stains on the mattres cover either (something which is sometimes really horrifying in some hotels, as they virtually never replace the mattress covers).
The hotel location is, for the moment, a bit unlucky: there are big construction works going on for the Turin underground, which changed the Via Nizza completely to a construction site. Some older, and above all very ugly, prositutes are 'doing the streets' around the hotel, but they are never imposing themselves upon someone, so that's OK, they're part of the street furniture.
The hotel is located in an old building, but brand new, with new elevators (not that typical Italian rickety old cage elevators), and very nicely decorated. The staff is really very friendly.
But there's a downside as well. As a business traveller, I'm not always eating outside the hotel (lazy and too fat). This hotel, however a 4-star hotel, has no hotel restaurant. You can get some meals, but where it shows 10 different dishes on the menu, they only have 2 available. The meals are just deep frozen meals as you would get them from the Di per Di or Crai (Italian 7/11), and are served without any vegetable added. The bar tender is a friendly guy, but his recollection of English is very poor, and he doesn't know how to make a cocktail, so I got stuck with Martini.
Conclusion: I would really advise this hotel for your stay in Turin, but don't expect too much from the hotel bar. The location is tacky but in walking distance from all the 'must see' things in Turin, so actually great. Good hotel, I would definetely return.

Stayed in this hotel three times in January, February and March 2008, all on business trips. Once I arrived intending to stay for 4 days, and wound up staying for nearly 2 weeks. So I think I know the hotel pretty well.
In Torino I really prefer to stay downtown as you can see from my other reviews. This hotel is close to the central station. This means there are shops, bars and restaurants in easy walking distance. Also my favorite pub (Huntsman's) is close by. Here you can watch soccer or rugby with the student crowd. Just around the corner from the Majestic (another place I have stayed, which is no more than 100 yards from here) is one of my favorite restaurants, the Allora di Parigi (hope I'm not butchering the spelling too badly!) And around the corner from the pub is a great wine bar where you can buy an excellent bottle of wine for 30E (or much less, that's one of their best) and eat great food for free.
There is a laundry around the corner to the left out of the front door (Speedy Laundry!) which was a real find. Show up with a bag of laundry and for 7 (yes seven) euros they will wash and dry the whole lot. They even sort your socks. No pressing though.
Anyway I digress. The Mercure chain is a reliable brand member of the Accor company positioned somewhat above Novotel. This one has been completely renovated in about 2005-6 timeframe and all the rooms are essentially brand new with bamboo floors and modern functional bathrooms. There is wifi throughout the building.
There is a nice little bar off the lobby where they put out appetizers in the evening. It became our habit to go sit after work (about 8pm), have a couple beers and watch "Who wants to be a Millionaire" in Italian. We got pretty good at it even though our Italian is non-existent. Channel 5 every weeknight by the way.
The only criticism that some will have of this hotel is the immediate surrounding street environment. The hotel entrance is off one of Torino's typical arched walkways, but not one of the nicer ones. There are some "girls" along the street on some nights. On other nights there are people selling souvenirs. Other nights people selling bread. We started to see a pattern where Tuesday night was the girls, Wednesdays the souvenirs, and so on. Then one night they were all there together! Someone messed up the schedule! Anyway it shouldn't bother most people and after spending quite some time there I certainly felt right at home.
Taxis can be ordered right to the door or you can walk around to the station.
I recommend this hotel and at 125E including breakfast you can't go wrong.

I stayed here for 3 nights in July as I wanted to get away, had never been to Turin and because Expedia were running a great offer.
Having got the bus from the airport, the hotel was a doddle to find, right by the station even if obscured by a lot of the building work that was going on there.
The hotel interior/room was immaculate, and I too had a 'disabled' corner room like the previous reviewer, so plenty of space and very airy. The bed was comfortable and the mini-bar wasn't extortionately priced.
I, a woman travelling on her own, felt no discomfort or unease walking the (literally) 1-2 minutes from the hotel entrance to the man road, it was rather like the area round many city train stations - eg Kings Cross in London.
Breakfast was far better than I was expecting with a good selection available.
On my last night I was in the town (5-10 minutes walk to the main attractions) and had my bag snatched from my arm, containing my money, cards, passport, phone, camera etc. It was a scam, a woman fell over in front of me and as I bent to help her my bag slid from it's snug position under my arm to my elbow, at which point the bag was pulled from me and off it went. When I got back to the hotel the night porter, seeing me rather shaken, sat me down with a brandy or two and calmed me down.
The following morning by the time I spoke to the staff at reception they had a full update on what had happened and had prepared documents for me, including notes in Italian to the police and airline, and records of my passport number. They also lent me 50 Euros to get to the airport (which I of course returned once I got back to England). I was really touched by their kindness and courtesy above and beyond the call of duty.
I'd love to post some photos but alas someone else has them now!
(Theft aside, I'd highly recommend Turin for a short weekend break)
