We began a tour with this beautiful city. Fabulous room with a huge balcony overlooking the alps & the lake. Sunrises & sunsets were breathtaking.
Lovely & huge room (be sure to book in the lakeside building). Fabulous bathroom & ammenities. Great fruit basket & chocolates in our room upon arrival.
Food was very good. Outstanding views from the restaurant, too.
Very friendly (English speaking) staff & primo loaction. Would love to return!

This hotel IS NOT a five star hotel as advertised. It's just OK at best. The decor is straight out of the 'The Spy who shagged me'. I mean, tired is not the word for it. It's a horrible hodge podge of the past 30 years. No lie, the reception area has leopard printed sofas! The air conditioning, if you could call it that, could barely circulate the air, so we opened the balcony door. This brought in the sounds of a lakeside concert that played on until about 2:00 AM. Great news if you're at the concert, but if you're worn out from a transatlantic flight, this can be annoying. The only thing 5 star about this hotel is the view, which really is beautiful.

Comfort at a Price

I spent two nights at the Hotel Eden while traveling with my sister ... It's a nice place, and the staff is welcoming and professional. The room itself was fine, and the hotel amenities were generally good. The location is excellent, and it was great to slip our of my room for a run right along Lake Lugano.
The only real problem I have with the hotel is price. At over 400 bucks a night, Hotel Eden was more expensive than commensurate hotel rooms I'd booked in Hong Kong, Tokyo, New York, etc, all of which were equal or better. Maybe it's just the US dollar, or maybe things were a lot busier than they looked, but I just didn't feel like I got value for my money.
Wonderful location, nice hotel

Like other reviewers, I'm not sure whether this hotel merits a 5 star rating, but it's very nice, and we had an excellent 6 night stay. It's definitely a 5 star location. Beautiful views of the lake, city and surrounding mountains, and only a short walk along the lakeshore to the center of town.
The biggest deficiency, as others have noted, is that the rooms and hallways are in need of updating. The carpets are worn and the furniture a bit on the beat up side. On the other hands, the roomy bathroom did seem to have been refurbished. It was all marble and had modern fixtures.
The staff was friendly and helpful, although we did have an experience with the concierge that I would not have expected. We wanted tickets to a play one night while we were in Lugano, The concierge called the theater and reported back to us in a letter that tickets were only available at a local department store. At the store, we were told that the play was sold out. We went on the night of the show anyway, thinking that maybe some tickets had been held back, and there were in fact a number of seats still available. At a 5 star hotel, I expect the concierge to figure all of that out and make the arrangements.
Dinner at the restaurant was expensive but very good, and the breakfast buffet, which was included, was good but not great.
One down side, especially for disabled or older travelers: the hotel is 2 buildings, connected by a tunnel (a hallway, really) under a road. IAlthough there are elevators it is not possible to get back and forth without walking up and down some stairs in the passageway.

Great Lake Views – Crappy Rooms

This hotel looks impressive on their website and so does the lobby which is well decorated and modern, but they need to take some of the money they spent updating the lobby to update the crappy rooms. The pro is that the hotel has an excellent five star location right across the street from the lake and I believe all of the rooms have a lake view/balcony as long as they are above the 4th floor.
The con is that the rooms are well past their prime and are 1 star in my opinion. Literally, the walls, furniture drawers, headboard and curtains are covered in a grass green suede type fabric that has disgusting stains all over the place. The furniture and carpet look 30 or 40 years old. If I had the option of leaving right when I opened the door, I would’ve turned around and left. I can safely say that this place is not worth the $500/nt that they are charging for the room we stayed in. It was horrible.
The buffet breakfast that was included in the price was delicious with made to order omelets, fresh fruits, cereals, etc. But the dinner menu was extremely expensive with limited choices. Parking at the hotel was ridiculously expensive as well.
