We arrived in Paris on the TGV at the Gare de L'est, and since this hotel was one block away I decided to stay there after reading the other reviews.
It was quiet, comfortable, and convenient to the station, metro (steps away), and restaurants and a small Monoprix grocery store. The breakfast included "healthy" options, instead of the usual white bread and coffee, including fruit, yogurt, cereal, ham, cheese and jam, different sorts of bread, croissants, pain au chocolate, juice, and various sorts of hot drinks. It was easier than wandering the neighbourhood looking for breakfast.
It was my 11 yo daughter and I, and they gave me a double bed, plus a single bed/couch. Since we were rarely in the hotel, it was perfect.
The Open Bus Tour had a stop right around the corner, and the people at the desk were helpful in giving directions.
There were Velib bikes to rent a block away as well.
Another advantage was that we could check our baggage until it was time to take the train in the evening.
The best thing is the convenience of the location. The area of town was okay, tons of Indian restaurants and takeaway to the north...but not upscale...a bit gritty even.

We spent 3 nights at Ibis Paris Gard de L'est on our first visit to Paris in May 2008. The hotel suited all our needs: clean, comfortable, Metro just round the corner. Most of the staff spoke excellent English and all were very helpful. Breakfast when you want it and good security for luggage. Our family room was very quiet so we slept well. The area may not be the best in Paris but it was so easy to access all the main tourist attractions. I would strongly recommend the hotel as a good base from which to explore Paris especially if travelling by Eurostar (10 Minutes walk from Gard d'Nord).

Soyez prudent !

We stayed here for just one night, as we arrived late in paris by train and wanted to stay for one night somewhere close toi the train station before going somewhere else.
Its a basic hotel close to the train station, metro, and is central. the rooms were clean, for the price and location it was really worth it.
The reception staff, was extremlly helpful there is lady working in the reception by the name Fautou,( not sure if i spelled it right), she was very helpful as we wanted to visit a shop close to the hotel, and she guided us well. she tried her best to help us and in the end we got the right instructions,
We have stayed in Ibis all around the world, and it has been always clean and good, this one also dint disappoint.

Just got back from staying at the Ibis Paris Gare de L' Est 10ème.
When we arrived we were a little shocked as the hotel is split across
both sides of a small road with Reception and restaurant on one side and rooms on the other.
We were travelling with a 11 month old baby, so when they told us there were no rooms on the ground floor and the lift was broken and the staircase was a winding deathtrap, we were a little upset.
Overall, the hotel is VERY basic - no kettle, hairdryer etc etc. Rooms are very small and cots at a premium.
Location is good in so far as it is directly opposite the Gard de L'est (big train and metro station) but this also brought beggers, dodgy street venders and muggers to such a busy area.
There are a few restaurants within a block of the hotel and are of varying quality - my tip is to leave the hotel and surrounding area in the morning and eat out all day and just return to sleep.
In a nutshell - Ideal for couples and stag/hens but not for families or young kids.
