Shower was faulty - showered the room not the person ! Hairdryer was faulty, remote handset to TV faulty. Had to pay to park in an empty hotel car park - why ? Quite walk to metro - would have been easier if told t go out through the garage ! Staff disinterested - not one of Ibis best !

The hotel is situated in the business district of Lisbon. It's a 5 minute walk to the closest metro stop and from there go to the centre of Lisbon. The hotel itself is very modern and the staff speak English. I will definitely stay here again.
From the airport you should take the Aeroporto Shuttle for only Euro3. DO NOT take the Aeroporte Bus. If you take the shuttle, it drops you off basically right in front of the hotel, and ticket can be used for the rest of the day on all trams and busses. It's well worth it considering the hassle you will be saving yourself.

This was the checkin conversation, after waiting three minutes to be helped, as the reception staff (all three) were very busy chatting to eachother*
She: "Yes?"
I: "Hi, I made a reservation on the na...."
She: "Passport!"
I gave my passport. She checks data in her system.
She: "This is room card, you in 612, elevator there". She slams the card on the desk and continues chatting.
The checkout conversation went like this:
I: "I would like to check out."
She: "give room card"
She works through my bill on the computer and prints it out.
She: "how you pay?"
I: "I'll pay with Visa"
She throws the bill at me and I go over the listed items.
She: "is correct, you pay!" *smacks the visa terminal on my bill*
After paying she attends to another person, as if I was never there.
In between these two conversations, several others had place. The absence of language knowledge was an obstacle (there was a whole explanation of the menu in the restaurant to other guests, but when I asked in English what I could eat, a ten second explanation containing the words"meat", "soup", "rice" and "pasta" was all I got). But the staff and service in the restaurant was nice and friendly in general, and good intentions make people flexible.
Nevertheless, flexibility has limits, and frankly I don't think I have ever been treated worse in a hotel than in this one. Not a single question or request was replied to properly or friendly by the reception staff. They radiated "why can't you **** off and let us watch TV" from morning till evening.
The hotel itself is your standard Ibis accomodation. A decent room that, although under the immediate landing route of the airport, was very quiet. The room was big enough and clean, as well as the bathroom.
The hotel is located on the outskirts of the centre, but this easily reached within half an hour on via the subway. The area in general is safe and clean.

For the price of 59 euros, it was a good deal. We drove into the city so we found it was the best place to park our car for a few days while we were able to take transit and cabs to sightsee etc.
Like a previous reviewer, there's a slight lingering cigarette smell in the room that becomes stronger (and intermingled with alcohol smell) in the hallways. There was also constant construction in the lobby/restaurant area when we were there May 2007 but you couldn't hear it in our room luckily.
Not sure if we would stay here again - but the price point is pretty good. It was easy to take public transit - subway just around the corner. We felt safe coming home at night. Cab ride to Barrio Alto was about 5 euros.

When we visited Lisbon last year we stayed at the Novotel Jos? Malhoa which is at the opposite side of the same avenue. It was also very nice, but a lot more expensive than the Ibis. Obviously the Novotel offer higher standards but in this case, I believe it isn't worth to pay more.
This Ibis is very new, the room is enough, the staff is incredibly helpful and has one advantage: it's a lot easier to reach the nearest metro station (Pra?a de Espanha). You only have to leave the building through the garage (-2 floor) and you will be in a few minutes walking distance to the station.
The breakfast was the best we've ever experienced in a Ibis hotel with lots of options, good quality, and the DIY fresh orange juice was a very interesting plus.
Overall, Ibis proved us to be the best deal we ever got in Lisbon.
