After a long train ride, my bleary eyes went for the first hotel in sight, which happened to be the Ibis Koenigstor. This fell on day 8 of a 10 day trip, and in each city we visited I had been eyeing up the convenient, clean-looking Ibis hotels. Although I usually like a local hotel with a little more character, sometimes I just have to go for something standard.
With the Ibis, like most American hotel chains, you know exactly what you're going to get- a clean, recently renovated, spacious room with a TV and nice bathroom. Which is just what I got.
The location is perfect, inside the city walls, yet right by the train station entrance. Breakfast was good. Very friendly and helpful staff, even helped us make a reservation for another Ibis the next night.

My husband and I stayed 2 nights here in mid December and would rate it as an average hotel. Location is good - just inside the old town walls and literally 1 minute walk to the main train station (no noise though). There's a few fast food outlets close by (Burger King right next door) and an Aldi supermarket across the street (not a lot of variety but convenient for small things like drinks and snacks). Main Christmas markets (the reason for our visit) were about 15 mins walk but there were some stalls only a few mins walk away.
Room itself okay but stank of smoke. We were offered the option of changing rooms after the first night but decided it was easier not to since we were only staying for 1 more. There's free internet access in the reception area for guests and wifi in some guest rooms (not the floor we were on) which cost money.
If we stayed in Nuremberg again, we would explore other accommodation options as we did not consider the Ibis to be good value for money compared to the other places we stayed in Germany.

Although we got a really good rate of 49 Euros a night and it had the biggest rooms we’d ever come across in an Ibis and the rooms appeared to have been recently reburbished, this didn’t make up for the NOISE. It has an all-night karaoke bar right next door and drunken yobbos came out at all times of the night shouting, fighting and singing at the tops of their voices. Then they hung about in the alleyway next door making even more noise. The staff were really sweet - but there’s no way we’d ever go back.

This is hotel is very conveniently situated right across the street from the train station. It is a very quiet location other than the karioke bar in the basement of the hotel - it is open until 5:00 a.m.! All the major attractions of the old city are located within walking distance and the hotel is within the ancient city wall. If you stay at this hotel or are in Nuernberg, make sure you check out the Barfuesser restaurant and brewery just a few steps away from the hotel.
The hotel is clean and rooms are a nice size for european standards. The breakfast is ample but, if you're not overly hungry in the morning, I would suggest passing on the 9.50 Euro per person and just going to the bakery "Der Beck" next door for an ample selection of pastries and hot breakfasts.

This was not a good place to stay in the summer. There is no A/C, yet if you open the windows, you have nothing blocking the noise of an extremely busy Kebab restaurant on the ground floor under the hotel, people yelling in all languages throughout the night (weeknights included - usually till about 3 am) - and worse was the horrible smell from the meat!! It was unbearable.
If you aren't there in the summer, you will like this hotel - great location near the train station yet on the main road into town - 5 min walk. The room was huge by European standards, bed comfy, nice bathroom, HUGE breakfast buffet. I ate so much each day I didn't eat lunch. Meats, cheeses, pastries, many types of bread, fruit, delicious yogurt, cereals, eggs, vegetables, yum!!!
Recommend staying here as long as it's not during July or August.
