i went to budapest last weekend and stayed at the Ibis Heroes Square... let me tell my opinion about it...
first of all the area is excellent. there are lots of great places nearby.
we booked this hotel via their website but when we arrived at the hotel, the final price (tax included) on my invoice was ...without tax. be aware of that. int's not much, but you have to pay more that yo expected to.
the room was nice and clean, but : no minibar, no extra pillows or blankets, not enough towels (we had no shower towels), no little shower gels or shampoos or shower cap at the bathroom..
the hotel has a good parking place in the basement, but you have to pay (14 euros/day).
the internet ... again...you have to pay.. and quite a good amount of money.
the breakfast was not included in the room price, but there are many nice places for breakfast nearby. we went at Gloria Jean's, aprox 3 minutes walking...
there is nobody to help with the luggage :(
it was nice, not excellent!
but the area worths it :)

We just came back from a 5-nights stay at the Ibis Hotel Heroes Square Budapest and want to share our satisfaction with this hotel.
The Ibis are a "low cost" hotel chain, but this doesn't mean that you have to give up on the cleanliness of the rooms. What you don't get are some services like minibar and room service. But if you can live without them, Ibis are the perfect choice!
We booked the Ibis Heroes Square not only because we got an excellent rate of 50 euros per night (breakfast excluded, you can buy it on the spot for 8 euros/person, but we chose to buy pastries on the nearby food stores) but also because this is one of the first Ibis with the new look of the rooms (new bed linens, wooden floors, new bathrooms, LCD TVs).
As long time Ibis customers we were very curious about this new look and we weren't disappointed! For the price of a "low cost" hotel, the stay is now much more comfortable! We felt like being in a lot more expensive hotel and we enjoyed every minute of our stay!
The hotel is located right on the beautiful Heroes Square, 2 minutes walk from the metro station. The famous Paprika Restaurant (absolutely recommended!) is a 10 minutes walk, as the Szechenyi Baths. Vaci Utca and the Chain Bridge are a 30 minutes walk away along beautiful Andrassy Utca. If you like to spend your nights in pubs and discos, this hotel might be a bit out of the action, but if you like more to rest in a quiet part of town after a long day of sightseeing, this is the place for you!
Absolutely recommended!

We stayed at Ibis Heroes Square in december 2007. From the hotel to the city center the ride takes about 10 minutes by subway. We had a room at the last floor and the view was beautiful. Ocasionally we had breakfast in the hotel and we were pleased with it. The stuff is kind and helpful.

I'm not sure why this hotel is rated a **** star, at best it's a ***star. We were to stay for 5 nights but found alternate arrangements after just one.
Our room was dingy with three single beds (we asked for a double bed + a single). The carpets needed cleaning, but the worst part was the mold on the shower curtain in a bathroom that had no ventilation. How expensive is it to replace a shower curtain? Although close to some attractions, really not the best option. On a good note, the food at the restaurant was quite good and the breakfast buffet had an extensive selection.
