I stayed at this hotel with my girlfriend in October 2007. It was exactly what we expected from Ibis : good, clean and not expensive. Okay, the rooms always look the same but you know what you get. The price is always excellent. There is not much to do in the area where the hotel is located, although there is a shopping mall and there are restaurants, but the city centre is only a couple of stops away if you take the metro. I can recommend this hotel to everybody.

The Ibis Mala Strana was very clean though the rooms are very small. The immediate area seemed fine and it was conveniently located next to a nice mall and a block from the Metro. From there, Old Town was only a couple of stops away. This Ibis has a full service restaurant and there are numerous other restaurants nearby.
It served our purpose of a conveninetly located, clean, budget hotel.

My wife and I, both 42 years old, took our first trip to Prague this month. We booked our travel through a bigger U.S. travel agency and picked the lowest category of hotel, out of 4, so we knew there wouldn't be a lot of extras from our choice. We have stayed at the Ibis chain before and we trusted we would get a clean, small room in an average neighborhood with a decent staff. Below are some of our observations.
ROOM PLACEMENT. Our room was located on the side of the hotel that paralleled the on-ramp to the freeway. It is also located directly across the street from a major loading dock for a very large shopping mall. All night there were trucks and forklifts driving in and out of the loading door which was definitely heard through the average hotel windows. By the way our room was located on the first floor so maybe upper floor units are better, but I believe those might be smoking rooms. If you can get a guaranteed stay on the other side of the hotel I would highly suggest it. If not, I'm not sure I would stay at this property again, unless you sleep with ear plugs.
ROOM. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom was clean and functional. Carpet was clean. Ample spaces for storage. You wouldn't want to entertain guests in this small room though.
STAFF and LOBBY. The staff was very friendly, courteous & patient and spoke English well. The lobby was clean with 2 free internet computers, a lounge and bar area, and a breakfast/restaurant section. The European breakfast had much to choose from and was always appealing to the eye and fresh. Check in and out was not a problem nor slow.
NEIGHBORHOOD. It was ok. There are a few decent pubs and middle range restaurants within a few blocks and a major shopping mall, with a grocery store, right next door. The hotel is located about 1.5 - 2 miles from Old Town. The reliable and affordable tram, to get you just about anywhere in Prague proper, is just one block away. Side note: do not take a taxi within the city. It is a big expensive ripoff. The general neighborhood and streets near the hotel were a bit dirty with trash and graffiti. This seemed to be typical of other Prague outlining neighborhoods too. There really is not anything to see in this area so plan on either a 25 minute walk or tram excursion to do your exploring and sightseeing.
Overall if you are not against pounding a little pavement and utiilzing a major European city's transportation system I would suggest this hotel to people who don't need to be pampered. If you're looking for charming inn and neighborhood in a tranquil setting I would suggest you look else where.

Great location and helpful staff

We stayed here as part of a package tour.
The staff was extremely helpful although the quality of English spoken did vary. The maids were very helpful to my mother and aunt, who were ill during our stay.
The free internet access in the lobby was very convenient to let family at home know that we had arrived. The lobby bar (with HDTV for the football games) has comfortable chairs and reasonable prices (though the food/beer was about 70 percent more expensive than the excellent surrounding restaurants). There are 24-hour food and drink establishments within a couple of blocks.
The breakfast buffet was superb, we always had a wonderful start to our day. Breakfast is available from 4am-noon, with hot foods from 6:30-10.
The hotel is very conveniently located by the mall and transportation. You can also walk to the major tourist areas with little difficulty and the streets are well-policed and safe at all times of day.
There were only two drawbacks: #1, the rooms are small and you can hear EVERY noise made in the bathroom - make sure you know your travel companion well. Also, the sirens another reviewer mentioned were in evidence frequently and around the clock. This didn't disturb us as much as our fellow travelers on the first floor (we were on the 4th floor).
I would definitely stay here again; a great value also.

This hotel was one of the choices for our package deal to Prague on go-today.com. The hotel was pretty convenient though not directly in the area of most of the tourist stuff. It is just around the corner from a major tram/subway stop or not a bad walk to Mala Strana area. Most of the staff at the desk were pretty helpful although we did get a few blank stares - never heard of any of that stuff printed in every travel brochure responses. We were there in November so the temp outside was in the 30s. The temp inside was overly warm. We used the internet in the lobby a few times and ended up going up to our room just because the lobby was too hot. We usually came back and opened the window for a while before we could go to sleep. The breakfast was pretty generic but there was plenty of choices - enough to get you going in the morning.
This hotel is fine if you just need a place to store your stuff and sleep. Not anything fancy, but it was very clean and I guess being too warm was better than being too cold.
