We drive around France 2/3 times a year and need one night stopovers where we know what to expect. This is not excessive, just comfortable room / bathroom, private parking and a chance to relax with a couple of beers and eat at whatever time you arrive (24hrs). The Ibis chain invariably fulfills this, not least at Sallanches. We arrived after a 450mile autoroute drive to be given the ubiquitous warm Ibis greeting after easy parking just outside the reception. This hotel is well positioned being only a few kilometres the Mont Blanc tunnel. It was a beautiful day and the window was open to give a nicely aired room. The Sallanches Ibis is pleasantly surrounded by Alpine peaks. The village is particularly picturesque to explore if you have the time. There is a Carrefour supermarket adjacent to the hotel but you do not have the feeling of staying in a supermarket car park. The Ibis French themed bar/restaurant is very comfortable with the ever present attentive staff. Ibis offer very generous advance booking discounts this one costing 39 euros for the double room.
After staying at a few Ibis hotels and always knowing what to expect, Ibis Sallanches thankfully is no exception!.

We had some free vouchers so we chose this for before and after the hiking the TMB, as it's the only Ibis near Chamonix. It's on the edge of town, so you really need a car. It's beside a Carrefour and shopping centre, so there's plenty of scope for stocking up on supplies. The restaurant in the Carrefour was excellent and cheap, by the way. The hotel itself is a bit worn looking, with relatively small rooms in need of a refurb. I've stayed in a few Ibis's in France and have found them to be of poorer quality than those in the UK and Germany, but that's maybe because they've been there longer and just need doing up. The French breakfasts seem smaller as well. There are probably much better places to stay in the area for a bit more cash, so I would look around, although it's a perfectly good motorway overnight stop.
