A Good Stay

I made my reservation on www.wyndham.com and selected our rate for 4 adults at $189 for one night. Our room was a premium two room suite. One room was a living area with a desk, mini bar area, flat screen television, sitting chair, and small sofa. The second room was the same size as the first, but with two double beds, chest of drawers, and another flatscreen. The rooms are seperated by two french doors. The room has a foyer that connects a hall to bathroom and sinks. The suite is truly huge. The colors used in the room are relaxing.
The suite has modern pieces that are all beautiful induvidually, but once you start looking you begin to think that maybe the room doesn't all match. A few lightbulbs were out; I didn't worry about and also didn't tell the desk. Scuff marks on walls were scattered among the room.
The corridors throughout the hotel are dreary and pooly maintained. The carpet is worn; many of the wall lights are also falling. The lobby itself has the 1920s feel which is nice. The pool area is on the roof is nice, but it is only open from noon to eight. The fitness center is ample, but some things didn't work.
The beds are amazing and luxurious; you will surely get a good night's sleep. The staff seemed friendly and helpful.
The room was clean. I am very easy to please that is why the lighting issues and drabness of some of the hotel features didn't affect me. In the end, the Roberts Mayfair has a good back bone, but some of its physical attributes are not up to par.

The outside of this place needs repairs. Things like worn carpet and dining room china stick out. However, once you get inside the room, everything in sparkling. The value is great. I'll be staying again in October.

We travelled to St. Louis for the first time in June 2008, and found the Wyndham Mayfair to be a nice place to stay, with some challenges. The staff was absolutely fabulous, very helpful and efficient. The newly refurbished suite was lovely and well-cleaned; we enjoyed the modern decorating touches and the extras like French doors between bedroom and living room areas. Here are the areas we hope the Mayfair management will improve, most of which seem to be due to their recent remodel: We couldn't locate the ice machines one evening, and the wonderful doorman directed us to a specific floor (it appears they had been painting the ice/snack machine areas and not all machines had been reinstalled yet). Unfortunately, we never located an ice machine or snack machine (did find an ironing board, though!), although we looked on every floor. We also noticed the telephone in the workstation area of the living room had been 'cannabilized' and had no buttons or working parts. One other slight inconvenience was the lack of a wastebasket anywhere in the suite except under the desk.
Other pluses: nice rooftop pool, lovely old-world feel in lobby, elevators and hallways, good value for downtown St. Louis hotel.
We didn't mind the construction outside around the hotel, as we had already spoken with someone who told us there were condos going up on every corner in this area. The hotel was within walking distance of the Arch, the MetroLink, Busch Stadium, and many other downtown attractions. We truly hope the Mayfair's management is able to get things 'tightened up', because we'll definitely try them again.

Location is good. However there is a lot of construction going on in the area -- seem to be trying to revitalize downtown St. Louis. Rooms are very nice -- it was a nice surprise. Air conditioning is not the greatest....rooms were very warm and humid....hard to cool down.

Looks can be very deceiving!! The people were very nice but as soon as we got to our room I noticed the LIGHT BULB WAS OUT in the bathroom. The maids were cleaning the rooms on our floor so I asked them to change the light bulb. TWO HOURS LATER they finally come and change the bulb after we called the front desk on the BROKEN PHONE and also told the the CABLE WAS OUT in our room. They told us Larry would come up and fix it while we were out for dinner. When we go back to our room the cable was still out.
At 7 am on the 10th floor we were awaken by a jackhammer in the ally below us, along with the the people in the next room being VERY LOUD! You could here every little thing going on in the hotel, toilets flushing, people talking, maids up extra early vacuuming the hallways. Two pillows on my head didn't even help. When we got up to get ready to check out I tried to make coffee...COFFEE POT DIDN'T WORK! So beautiful hotel, lovely decor, everything else was crap!!
