What can you say when there's so much filth? Our check-in was speedy and prompt only to find that our room had not been cleaned and the housekeeping staff were unable to say when it would be cleaned. It had a horrible stale cigarette smell despite the hotel being "smoke free." We checked in at 4pm, well after the 3pm check-in time. We trudged back down to the front desk where we were told "sorry" and given two free breakfast buffet tickets. The new room we were given had massive red stains on the green carpet, a hunk of dried cheese stuck to the side of the tub, and toothpaste splatterings on the wallpaper of the bathroom. Yay. I choose this hotel because it was cheaper than the Holiday Inn Select I normally stay at, and well, you get what you pay for! The good points: parking is only by valet but they are courteous fellows with a speedy delivery time. We ordered room service for breakfast and it was tasty and delivered on time. Previous management comments indicate that new housekeeping manager has been hired...hmmm....someone in HR didn't do their job. Perhaps the general manger should try sleeping in a room and being a guest anonymously once a month.

The Wyndham in Pittsburgh is a pretty good hotel, its clean and comfortable with friendly, helpful staff. Whether its location is good for you really depends on why you are in pittsburgh. The hotel is located very close to both Pittsburgh University and CMU, however it is a 10 miinute bus-ride to downtown. There is a free shuttle service on the hour (most of the time) from the hotel. This is a useful service. There are leisure facilities in the hotel but I didn't have the chance to use them so can't really comment. There are some bars close to the hotel but these are mostly student bars, if you want a larger selection you really need to go to Shady-side or South-side which are both a 5-10 minute taxi journey. Overall the hotel is pretty good value.

Wyndham is a very poorly managed chain. Some properties are excellent while some are terrible. The University Place Wyndham in Pittsburgh is in the bottom half for sure. I have stayed there five times only because of the location being close to Carnegie Mellon University. First, the good points. The shuttle is excellent and some of the staff at the front desk are very good. The bell staff, the parking staff and the shuttle people are good too. That is where it ends. The housekeeping is relatively poor. Cleanliness is not up to par for a place of this cost level. As a Wyndham by request member, I have not always gotten the same amentities that are listed in my profile. I stayed on the executive floor once. The breakfast offering was terrible. There were no clean napkins, the coffee machine was broken for two days. When I called the desk, they said that it was the vender's fault. Why couldn't they just bring a pot up there on a warmer? The table was dirty in the executive lounge and it was still dirty the next day with obviously no attention for over 24 hours. At 6:00am, the alarm clock in the room next to me started buzzing. I called the desk and someone came up to turn it off. The next day, the alarm ckock in the room on the other side started buzzing. I called again. Have they ever heard of turning off the alarm clocks as part of the daily housekeeping routine? It is something every fine hotel does. The place has a beat up feel to it. The management is very slack. Once again, the shttle service is good. There are a few people that do care. It is a failure of management leadership, training, and the lack of well defined high standard. Wyndham's website is also terrible. Despite using my Wyndham By Request # for the reservation

Just got back from our weekend trip to see University of Pitt. The hotel was in walking distance to campus but in a crummy part of the downtown. Check in was smooth and lobby was nice. Our room on the other hand was supposed to be non-smoking but smelled horribly of stale smoke. Beds were comfortable though. Room was clean but bathroom needed some work, there was some type of dripping on bathroom door not exactly sure what it was. Prices at the bar were ridiculous! One glass of chardonnay was $14 with tax and we weren't paying for the atmosphere either. All in all our trip would have been better if we stayed elsewhere, oh and our friends we traveled with had blood and urine stains in their bathroom and the other friend's ac didn't work.

Stayed here for business. The "non-smoking" room smelled of smoke, the phone was broken, the toilet flushed every 3 minutes by itself, and the shower curtain was full of blood stains. Yuch!!! don't stay here.
