Ridiculous charges at Tremont House

The Tremont House in Galveston is beautiful and historic, but it has a few problems. The rooms, as you might expect in a historic hotel, are on the small side, though the beds are very comfortable. The walls are very thin so you can hear everything in the halls and even the piano in the front lobby in the evenings (we could hear it from our third-floor room).
The extra charges are the reason I would not recommend this hotel. They charge $10 per day per computer for a very slow wi-fi connection. The charge is from noon to noon--so if you pay to log on at 10 PM, it will expire at noon the next day and you will have to pay again, even though it has not been 24 hours. If you are with a spouse who also brought a computer, this can get very expensive, and the speed is quite frustrating.
The room service is also greatly over-priced--we were charged $40 for a small breakfast that basically consisted of scrambled eggs and bread for two people.
In addition, the only real parking option is valet parking, which is another $12 a day.
As a result, you can end up spending quite a bit more than just what you spent on the room initially. In addition, the location is great if you want to spend your time at the Strand or near the cruise terminal (it's within walking distance of the terminal and literally backs up the Strand) but if you want to go to the beach, its extremely inconvenient.

Went for my birthday - started out very nice, courteous staff, lovely, spacious, clean room. But - was woken up by drunks in the room next to ours at 2:30am - I called security twice to ask them to be quiet. For some reason they didn't succeed & I listed to yelling and rearranging furniture from 2:30 - 4:30am. They did send free breakfast coupons but it was too little too late. Guess the partying room had a good night. I won't be back.

I booked this room thru hot wire then got scared because i started reading some of the reviews. Because Hot wire has sent me to places before that were to be 4 star and ended up being dumps when i got there. We checked in 21st june and checked 25th
When we arrived we were checked in by hotel manager Janiece she was great she even bumped us up to a suite on the top floor it was incredible had beautiful views and the bed i fell in loved with because it was so comfortable.
It had beautiful decor had two large flat screen tvs only thing was the tv in the bedroom u could not watch from bed u had to stand in front of it at the end of bed did not understand why they placed it that way it would of worked a lot better at the wall across from end of bed but over all my girlfriend and i had awsome time it was cozy and romantic.
I would recommend this place to anybody but i didnt understand some of the reviews the parking was fine u paid 12 dollars a day and they parked in a secured lot i thought it was awsome then u can take trolley or do like us and walk all over looking at historic places.
We also loved the soda fountain shop up the street on 23rd street it was called Star Drug Store oldest in Texas had the most incredible food with two chefs a very great place with great service.
Only thing i did not like the room was cleaned like early the first day but the second day it was 6pm and room was not done i thought that was odd but other than that awsome place
Also i want to say again Janiece was incredible she was awsome.

I stayed at this historic hotel on business. The room was magnificent!
It had twelve foot ceilings and beautifully furnished with double wrought iron beds. It had massive solid wood doors with brass and crystal knobs. My room was very spacious, however my co-workers room was not …so you might want to ask for one of the larger rooms….it’s the same price.
The bathroom was all art deco marble with a towel warmer. The bed linens were very luxurious and I slept like a baby.
However, I expect housekeeping to be perfect at a hotel like this and my tub was not clean, and sometimes there isn’t any hot water to shower. I tried to keep in mind this is a “historic” Hotel and wasn’t just built last month. I guess that’s part of the experience..
My overall experience was romantic and I was overwhelmed by it historic charm, I would stay there again.

I’m so glad I chose to stay at The Tremont House. It’s not your typical hotel, the guest rooms were furnished more like something you would find in a cottage style home. Little touches like that make me feel so much better when I’m traveling. The restaurants were excellent- I loved the Merchant Prince. The best place to see all of Galveston is right at the Tremont House on their rooftop terrace. Definitely the most secluded and romantic spot in Galveston. This hotel was a gem.
