Location: Location is outstanding. You are about 100 yards from the beach and a block away from the trolley. There are several restaurants within walking distance or a short drive. There are also several souvenir shops and bars at your doorstep.
Hotel: If you are expecting a Vegas monstrosity, you will be disappointed. If simple yet elegant is your taste you will be pleased. The lobby was huge and adjoined a restaurant and a bar. The pool was great and had a resort feel with the swim up bar and landscaping. The exterior of the hotel is very impressive. It looks like an old-time mansion with palm trees. The hotel offered valet but the covered parking garage is conveniently across the street and finding a space was never a problem. Bernardo’s, their restaurant, never seemed busy. Perhaps the high prices and lack of a kid’s menu played a part in this.
Room: I have to disagree with several people here, our room was a nice size. We crammed 5 people into a room with 2 double beds and had plenty of space for an air mattress. The bathrooms are a little smaller but had enough space to maneuver in. Maybe the single-bed rooms have cut corners? I must admit that I was very pleasantly surprised after reading some of the reviews.
Staff: The staff was awesome. The concierge was very informative, the check-in/out was smooth and we always had someone open the door for us upon exit and entry. We asked upon arrival for an Oceanview room and were upgraded free of charge. They also provided us with free vouchers to ride the trolley which we did to visit the Strand district.
Value: We utilized Wyndham’s Best Rate Guarantee program and got a wonderful rate. (First night free, 2 additional nights at $129 per night) In the end we were paying $86 per night for 3 nights! Quite honestly, the rack rates are a steal. When we visited Galveston last year we stayed at a cheap hotel that ran us $115 per night and was absolutely horrid. For $14 more, we went from gas station hotdogs to steak.

We have stayed at The Galvez many times and absolutely love it. Yes, the rooms are small- but it is an historic hotel. The lobby area is beautiful- it's relaxing to have drinks at the lobby bar. Also, check out the veranda overlooking the pool. It's nice to sit out there and enjoy the scenery.
We have never had any problems concerning the pool area. It has always been clean. In fact, we have commented on the fact that the staff (especially Patricia) was always picking trash up around the pool area. And they were out there every morning cleaning the pool. The food we ordered from the pool bar is delicious. Yes, the drinks are pricey, but you can always always get creative ; )
When you check in, be sure to ask for an upgrade. We did last year and were put in the Roosevelt Suite- it was awesome. It's always worth a try.
We're going again next month and I can't wait! We've always had a great time there and I'm sure we will again.

After reading several reviews stating that cars were broken into, we were a bit worried. Parked in front of the hotel and had no problems. As expected in a historic hotel, the room was very small. It was also a bit damp. Toilet paper on roll was always wet. The air conditioner was not able to keep the temperature below about 77 degrees. Main floor of hotel was beautiful. Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The pool was sparkling with a swim up bar and a steel drum band, but the jacuzzi looked a little green. Cost $2.50 for a soft drink from the pool bar, but next to the pool bathrooms is a soda machine were the same can of soda only cost you a $1.00.
As far as a family feel: While the pool area was awesome, most of the patrons were young 20 somethings who were drinking and a bit underdressed for the eyes of young ones. A young man was wearing a speedo, strutting about and proudly showing his "personality" which was showing through the wet material to a woman who was with him. We felt a bit uncomfortable and out of place coming into the main lobby after being out at the beach for the day, so I would not recomend the Galvez for vacationing families looking for the BEACH experience.
We stayed in the supposedly HAUNTED room, and waited for something out of the ordinary to occur, but to no avail.
If you are without kids this is a great place to stay.

This hotel was absolutely BEAUTIFUL!! Not only did it look clean, it smelled clean. There were always staff polishing the brass fixtures and mirrors. I was impressed by the special attention to detail.
The location was perfect, close to everything and the view of the beach was amazing.
While the rooms were smaller than I expected, they were very clean and comfortable. The bed was a pillow top and the linens were high quality. The bathrooms were updated and I really enjoyed the products provided by Bath and Body Works.
The staff were always gracious and helpful. I wish I had time to visit the spa area (next time!) but I really enjoyed the pool and hot tub. The hotel provides guest beachtowels which were fluffy and absorbant. My only complaint was that the swim up bar was not open during my three day stay.
I will stay here again during my next trip to Galveston. It really felt like an oasis and that I was miles away from my day to day life!
Thanks to the staff of Hotel Galvez!

We loved the Galvez! We had a very comfortable room with a wonderful gulf view. We had a great time at the pool (one of the nicest I've been to) and the spa. The only thing we felt was lacking a bit was the food....the restaurant is only average compared to the rest of the hotel. I highly recommend this hotel!
