I was really disappointed with this hotel right from the moment I checked in. The place is very tired and in need of refurbishment. The decor is old and pretty grimy. The staff were pretty good although they did look rather apologetic as the varnish seemed to peel off the reception counter in front of their eyes. One to avoid I am afraid to say!

We booked a night at the Marque in a standard room facing Northbourne Ave. The rooms are very outdated, dusty & frankly a bit grimy. Lobby is also in need of a spruce up. Very dissapointing experience. Only plus here is it's proximity to the city - about a 6min walk, but there are so many choices close by in the same price range. Wouldn't stay here again.

We had the standard room, which is the cheapest, without breakfast, but it was perfectly adequate. The room was clean and well maintained. Although it faced the main street of Northbourne and we didn't have any view, the room was quiet and we slept well. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It is a little walk to the city center, but still easy to do, and you can find all kinds of restaurants there, as well as catch transportation to all the attractions.

A great friendly hotel. I stayed there over a weekend while I was in Canberra. Firstly the complimentary parking wasn't miles away from the hotel - more than I can say for other places, the hotel is in a great location only a few minutes walk. The staff at reception were very welcoming - I felt I was one of the family. The rooms were spacious and had a nice classic style. The Restaurant was amazing with a great variety of dishes matched with a fantastic wine list. I will be staying at the Marque Hotel everytime I travel to Canberra!

The Chifley on Northbourne seems like your average corporate hotel. The rooms are spacious and clean but not luxurious, the amenities are as good as you would expect but no more -
and then you eat in the restaurant...
This is definitely NOT your average hotel restaurant. The food is impeccable - perfectly fresh and beautifully cooked. On top of that it is reasonably priced - if food like this was served in an independent restaurant, it would carry a much higher price tag. As an added bonus, they have a "wine buffet" where, for $15, you can try as many of the wines as you like - and I don't mean taste, I mean full glasses! Of course, for that price, the wines are not premium labels - but they are all quaffable and it's a great opportunity for the visitor to sample different Australian wine styles.
As a solo female business traveller, I don't feel brave enough to venture out to a restaurant in the evening, so it was a real pleasure to find a hotel where I could enjoy really good quality food in-house.
