I love the Windsor.
Usually when its a family weekend we stay at Rydges. (Never again) For my husband and I we stay at The Windsor.
After a horrible 2 days at Rydges with the girls (teens) I couldn't stand it anymore and switched to The Windsor. We stayed in a lovely junior suite.
Walking back into The Windsor was a breath of fresh air! The staff are fantastic, all so warm and welcoming and they always have a smile on their face.
Our suite was gorgeous. One large room with a King bed, tv, lounge chair and table. The other room with a 3 seater sofa bed, 2 armchairs, coffee tables, desk and tv. The decor is olde worlde and grand. To some it may seem dated (personally I don't think so) but I believe they are due for a renovation. If you are after modern funky decor The Windsor is not for you. I expected the girls would think it was stuffy and too nan and pop in its decor but they've fallen in love with The Windsor as well.
The marble bathroom was spotless and spacious with plenty of large fluffy towels. The robes are gorgeous and HUGE. The shower was spot on with excellent constant hot water and the most amazing shower head, no dribbly weak water pressure at all.
Room service was prompt friendly and delicious. Breakfast in room was beautifully presented and the food was hot and again delicious. Although in room breakfast is a preorder affair, one of my daughters was unable to have the menu items. We ordered off menu and it was no hassle whatsoever.
Another appealing thing about the hotel is that the windows are double glazed and actually open. The air conditioning was fantastic but to open a window in a city hotel is an absolute luxury.
I requested concierge to send a porter at 8.50am and have the car ready at 8.50 for a quick checkout. And as usual they were on time. Unheard of in other hotels we've stayed in.
Every time we have stayed at The Windsor it has been a wonderful experience. The architecture and ambience are fantastic.
Definately a 5 star hotel without the 5 star snobby staff.

The Hotel Windsor was sensational. We stayed in a superior room with a fantastic view of Parliament Building. We stayed for 3 nights and the quality of the accommodation enhanced our visit.
The guys at the concierge desk were fun and informative. The front desk people were helpful. The staff were always appraochable and smiling. Our room was a lovely haven to retire to after a busy day in the city.
The location means all public transport is on your doorstep, although we chose to walk most places to enjoy the flavours of the city.
This property will be our hotel of choice for any future visit to Melbourne!

We booked a deluxe king room which should have been overlooking the Parliament house. 3 nights Saturday to Tuesday, it was my dream to stay there and I had just come out of hospital from pnemonia and heart failure. We were told we had been updated to a suite.
Dont fall for this, we were under the airconditioning unit making clicking noises every 5 minutes and we had loud music coming into our window all night! We asked for assistance and were told they had weddings on so couldnt move us! I didnt sleep all night and ended up very ill next day with my husband going to the desk to get a new room.
The family came to have lunch with us in the formal dining room, we all found the food disappointing, preheated and the good things for those who liked cake, lots of different varieties.
We were tthen taken to a room which was in the oldest part of the hotel with creaking floor boards, smelled musty and of cigarettes!
We were digusted and went back to desk and finally they gave us a room which we originally ordered.
By this time my heart rate was over the top and my family and I had a really bad day to celebrate my birthday! We were given free breakfast for our hassles. I dont think this makes up for the bad service and overall rudeness.

Most comfortable bed EVER but expect more from a 5 star hotel
Guest name: Pinkybee, Melbourne
The exterior and lobby look so grand, shame about the decor of the rooms. Royal blue and yellow flowered carpet is just wrong and ruins from the grand feeling of the hotel.
As the titel suggests, the beds were to comfy, I want a bed like that in my house. I contacted the hotel to ask about the beds, so some hotels do let you know where they get their beds or will sell one to you from their wholesaler but I didn't get a response from them which was a little disappointing.
I've had high tea here before and it was fantastic, expensive but the service was great-I love never ending cups of tea.
Our plan was to order room service and stay in all night and relax but the menu was boring and expensive for the rubbish they were serving so we went out instead. Breakfast was too expensive and not at all appealing in the restaurant so we popped over the road to the Treasury Cafe which was fantastic.
I would expect more from a so called 5 star hotel but it was better than others I've stayed at.
Gorgeous ! All we hoped for..

My partner and I stayed at the Hotel Windsor for 4 nights, as an anniversary present to eachother !! Having booked a budget room online, we were worried we'd be in 'the dog box' .. but were delighted at the small, yet ample, room we got. It was really fantastic!
We did not have much of a view, but did not expect it for the price we paid. The staff were amazing, and the service fantastic. We ordered pillows from their pillow menu, and they were delieved without delay. Our room was neat and tidy, with a very comfortable bed. The lighting was dated, but very suitable for a building keeping its age.
I have read some of the reviews on here, and must say, they have obviously rectified ALL these problems, because we could not be happier. We were met at our car, bags taken away and at our room within minutes. And the reverse on departure. The concierge was brilliant, making our dinner reservations for us, and answering every question, as silly as some seemed!
The transport at the front door was fantastic, an interesting moment when a rally/protest took place outside.. again, another interesting experience.
Overall, I found this motel brilliant, relaxed yet tendered at every moment, well located, and a joy to stay at! Can't wait to go back.. oh and the high-tea... what can i say!! Outstanding !!
