Room with no bed!

I stay in alot of different hotels all over the world, and while I would not consider this the worst or the best of the bunch. It is the first hotel that has ever allocated me a room without a bed inside! After a long flight and feeling very exhuasted I checked into the hotel and on lugging my suitcase to my room, I realized there was not even a bed inside the room!
Worse things have happened I guess, a previous hotel in Holland allocated me and another collegue the same room by accident and there was no chain lock on the door so the collegue walked straight in on me in the bathroom!
Hmmmmm.......... more attention to detail is needed in some of these big hotels. However I accept that everyone makes mistakes.
Duxton is decent, if you're not spending much time there...

I stay at this hotel on average once a month for work. The rooms are alright, beds are quite comfortable and the decor is quite pleasant. It's a shame the service isn't as good.
Had my father visit me at the hotel a few times as he lives in Perth, and on more than one occasion he's been treated horribly by the desk staff, even if I tell them in advance I'm expecting him to visit. Some of them are alright, usually the staff who work the late shift (one bleached blonde by the name of Ian, and Michael, warrant a credible mention) tend to go out of their way to make my stay pleasant, but others can be quite rude.
Also try to avoid The Grill restaurant, especially at breakfast. The food is OK but not worth the ridiculous amount of money they charge. Better to go to the Dome cafe opposite the hotel which can do a filling English Breakfast for more than half the price.
Overall, it's a nice hotel to stay at, if you can avoid eating there and deal with the check-in staff sparingly.

Believe me…. I live in Perth! I have had the luxury of staying in most if not all the 4 – 5 star hotels in Perth and the Duxton has to be the worst. I booked a king bed room for the weekend as a treat for my partner who had recently come out of hospital. Being a 5 star expensive hotel I was expecting something good, only to be given an outdated twin room on arrival, no dressing gowns, no safe, no morning paper, no service; the place was no greater than a 3 star. After telling staff about the room being a twin, they were not willing to give us a king bed room even though we found out the next day they had rooms available. We were not asking for an upgrade, just the room we booked! To top it off the pool and spa was closed; they didn’t offer any alternative and didn’t even tell people, they just pretended there wasn’t anything wrong. When your partner has had a knee op and you go up and down heaps of stairs to get to a closed pool its shocking, they wouldn’t even put a sign up in front of the stairs to warn people. You want 5 star hotel with good service, good rooms and good facilities? Forget the Duxton, go stay at the newly refurbished Sheraton down the road.

If you want to go to a hotel which offers its guests an experience with NO SERVICE QUALITY, in my opinion its the Duxton in Perth.
We were recently there for the first night of our honeymoon and what a mistake. Public relations and positive guest experiences do not appear to be high on their priority list. We were concerned about the place as soon as we walked in as the hotel appeared to be empty.
As I regularly stay in hotels I ask for a room upgrade and very often I am given such as it is good public relations, so I asked for an upgrade but anything and everything was chargeable including parking or any honeymoon welcome token. When I enquired about whether there were River view rooms available I was advised that there were quite a few but the hotel was offering nothing. The reception staff would not give a straight answer to basic questions, and their management would not even show their faces to offer any public relations to us as their guests. In the end we payed extra for a better room or so we thought, but it wasn't. Even though they had vacancies with views on the river side of the hotel they gave us a city view to the building next door.
In my opinion, give it a miss if service is important to you.

We have NEVER been moved to write a bad review of a hotel before so this will indicate how poor this Duxton experience was.
My partner and I travel all over the world and this hotel purporting to be a 5 * establishment rates very low down on a scale of all hotels irrespective of the rating. The bar is atrocious with no proper wine list, dreadful music, incompetent and rude staff ( a 5 * bar running out of nuts on a Friday night - no food, no access to room service food, no apologies, and then making the customer feel like they are in the wrong etc. etc.). The food in their Grill restaurant is simply bad. Ordered RARE salmon and it arrived very overcooked. Always queues at the check-in and things have not been arranged properly. No free internet connection. Rooms are drab and dull as mentioned in many other reviews. Rooms are not soundproof - could go on and on but thank God we have to now go and check out of this dreadful hotel.
