Great Location, Very Nice Room

I stayed at the Galt House for 3 nights in mid July. My room was in the Rivue Tower. The room was large, comfortable, and very clean. It had a magnificent view west over the river and parts of dowtown. The location is great if you want to take advantage of all the things downtown Louisville has to offer. We walked or rode the trolley to many of the sites we visited. In addition, getting on and off the highway (for trips to areas outside of downtown) were easy.
This is a convention hotel so there is alway activity. However, we never had to wait long for the elevators. The staff were pleasant and professional. So, although it is a convention hotel it was still very enjoyable.
One note: some other reviewers have mentioned the noise from the highway that runs along the river in front of the hotel. We stayed in a room towards that end of the tower and, yes, it was noisy at night. But, by the second day I didn't notice it at all (and I'm a light sleeper). Traffic may have been lighter those days...or just maybe it was the bourbon, the food, and the pleasantness of the city of Louisville!
I would stay at the Galt House again.

We stayed at the Galt House for business in June. I have previously stayed at the Galt House 3 times and this was by far the worst experience we have had with this property.
When we arrived to check-in it was very busy. They were quite understaffed. When we finally got to the front we were told they were going to "upgrade" us to a suite. We had very specifically asked NOT to have a suite because we wanted a king bed. They did not have our room request available and instead of being honest they gave us a supposed "upgrade" into a room I can't believe they would even put a guest in!
The suite we were in had a broken window. I am talking about a 3-4 foot long crack that was duck taped! The second day we were there the maid moved some of my items and said she didn't want them to get wet from the window (it was raining out). Nice of the maid, but crazy they would put guests in the room without fixing this!! The refrigerator in our room did not fit in the space it was intended to fit in. They had obviously replaced the original with a larger one. It was completely out into the room rather than under the cabinet where it belonged. I truly wish I had thought to take pictures as both of these things were just crazy!
On a positive note the room was large. I liked having the separate living and sleeping area.
The housekeeping did a thorough job, but they came at odd hours. We left our room by 9am each day and yet 2 days the maid was still there around 3pm when we returned to our room. The elevators at the hotel are a disaster. They are very slow and when a convention is going on you might as well plan on taking the stairs if you need to get anywhere in a hurry.
The parking garage is scary. I would suggest parking off-site. If you are in anything larger than a compact car you feel really closed in. The ceilings are LOW and the garage is not well marked (i.e. half the people can't seem to figure out how to exit making it a safety hazard of people going the wrong way).

Stayed at Galt House as a special getaway weekend. Stayed in Suite Tower, try to get room with river view. Ate at Revue on Saturday night, view, ambience and food were outstanding. Took afternoon sightseeing cruise on Belle, beautiful. Don't miss Fourth Street Clubs, lots to choose from.

I stayed here for a conference, and this is a really great hotel. No, it's not the ritziest place in town--no jacuzzi tubs or platinum amenities, but honestly, they don't try to overreach, either.
The consistency level seems to be very high here. The staff are uniformly helpful at just the right levels of assistance--no bellmen grabbing for your bag, but if you stand and look confused, someone will come to help.
The food in the restaurant is excellent, the location is about ideal, though I think some rooms in the Rivue Tower can be a bit noisy from the freeway right outside. The Suite Tower (where I stayed) was silent.
The rooms were gigantic, I never even went in one of the rooms in my suite. The closest thing to a downside to this place is the bathrooms--there were some, er, flushing issues, and the fixtures in the bath (such as the shower) were not quite up to the same level as the rest of the room. Perfectly fine, really, but they didn't make you say "wow."
I generally like to try every hotel in town, but if I come back to Louisville, I'll check here first.

We stayed at the Galt House in June of 2008. The front desk staff was friendly one time but rude the next. Only 3 of 4 elevators were working, and for a while, only 2 were working, causing long waits of 25+ minutes. Buffet selections few & costly, but good. Toilets loud, walls thin. Girl's volleyball convention in the hotel at same time causing many elevator delays and much added noise due to lack of chaperones. Complaints to desk about nighttime party noises from girl's rooms went unheeded. Many girls running through public areas in wet swimsuits. Many suite rooms overlook transformer grids and rooftops, while views facing north are spectacular. Housekeeping did excellent job in rooms but halls were often overlooked. Tenth floor public hallway A/C not working during entire 7 day visit. Costly hotel remodel looks good upon first inspection, but lacks fine construction details (excess wallpaper paste not removed, wallpaper badly cut around items).
Our convention buffet was supplied by the hotel, which turned out to be the same buffet as the Magnolia Cafe, except for added chicken tender patties and carved roast beef. Before our entire group was fed roast beef (which was delicious), they ran out, and to add insult to injury, they did not have another. The hotel staff started their cleanup during the last few speeches, causing several of the speakers to go unheard due to clinking of glasses and such.
Restaurant staff was friendly and exacting, but clean-up staff was lacking.
All in all, we had a mixed visit, some good some bad. Many things need to be evaluated in a blog and I have tried to be as fair as possible in this rating.
