Really Bad, Dirty

This was a disappointment. Hot & sticky. Needs renovation and air circulation. Some bugs. This place is not at all as it is pictured on the web.. Rooms were dirty!

When one thinks of Westport, CT, images of old money, Martha Stewart and private golf clubs come to mind. Therefore the website for the Westport Inn reflects that mentality. Talk about deceptive advertising! This place is truly a dump. When I first pulled up to the hotel, the cheerful display of daylillies in the front looked inviting. I began to get a little concerned after seeing the lobby. Antiques, I wondered? However, when I walked down the seedy outdoor hallway, populated by dead roaches and spider webs I knew something was very wrong. My room was shabby to say the least and the bathroom had not been cleaned. I couldn't wash my hands as there was no soap/shampoo and the floor had long black hair still on it. Ugh! It eventually took an hour and two calls to the front desk to get the bathroom cleaned and the required soap.
I looked on the Internet to try to find another hotel, but the only other option in Westport is a very expensive hotel that's listed on the National Register with rooms beginning at $400 a night. I have to believe this is why the "Inn" is still in business - there is simply no viable competition. Please do not be duped as I was by the 3.6 rating on hotels.com. I would certainly stay outside of Westport rather than subject myself to this awful place again.

I just read these reviews and couldn't agree more with the first few. I chose this hotel after viewing the website. It is nothing more than a regular hotel with a few things they added, such as Laura Ashley wallpaper and real fluffy beds. The beds are the best asset. The room we were put in had a mirror with all kinds of black streak marks on it, the bathroom had hair on the floor from the remaining person. The maids definitely need a talking to. The breakfast is decent but the girl that runs the breakfast is rude and has absolutely no personality. We got there about fifteen minutes before breakfast was over. She was putting things away as we were trying to prepare things. No smile, very rude. Definitely not what it's cracked up to be from the website, they make it look like a gorgeous place! Disappointment for Westport. For the money they charge hit the Marriott.

Go see Tommy at the bar

i agree with an earlier reviewer, "Do not go by the website, this is NOT an inn".. it is, in fact, a motel which could use some upgrades to say the least... the front desk girl was too busy to be bothered, and was about 11 miles off when she showed us (where she thought) we were. haha, how can you work somewhere and not I.D. it on a map?? the room was comfy, amenities provided, and the rate seemed fair for a holiday weekend night. no shopping closeby, but a few restaurants. 2 miles from the most BEAUTIFUL state park ever. There is another reason to go, however: the bar. more precisely, the barTENDER. locals, go to this bar, kick back in the retro surroundings, and have a few cocktails. "Inn" guests, feel comfort in knowing that this bar and its keeper are there waiting for you. it is very rare in these times to find a well-kept bar with a genuinely warm and inviting barkeep. we planned our entire stay thanks to his suggestions (travel, dinner, etc) and he made our stay worthwhile. Locals and tourists alike, go hang with Tommy.. learn about Westport, have some good drinks, and above all else: FEEL WELCOME. Westport Inn, do NOT let that guy go. To us, he WAS Westport.
Stick with the Marriott

Although the website makes this hotel look like an elegant country inn, in truth it is an older hotel that has not been maintained. The beds were comfortable enough, but the furnishings are shabby. The TV picture was awful! Imagine seeing Jesse Ventura with a green head. The mirror in the bathroom had a dozen long streaks in it where the backing rusted away. To flush the toilet, you had to hold the handle down until it finished flushing. The shower faucet came off in my hand. There were ants in the bathroom. The free continental breakfast is the most meager I've seen in a long time, and I travel a lot.
I stayed at the Westport in because it was close where I was working. Although the Marriott is about 10 miles farther up the road, next time I'll make the commute.
