I have stayed at crown many times in a variety of rooms and the rooms are of course excellent, as you would expect. I have always had a reasonably pleasant experience with the staff also as they are quite knowledgeable and helpful especially at the front desk.
Last year in November on a Saturday I stayed in a 2 bedroom suite (room 710), at a cost of $1290 for the night, with 5 people staying in the room (your permitted to have six). This month I booked the same room on a Wednesday with the same 5 people at a cost of $1825. Thats an increase of $535 over 7 months.
Thats a total ripoff and I would not be staying there again for that price. Also for a hotel of that caliber, ordering room service should not be so painful. The people answering the phone don't know any of the products, apparently about 50% of the wines are unavailable and since when does it take 45 minutes for 2 beers?
I defiantly recommend the Langham on Southbank over Crown Towers any day, its better value, location is still great and its of equal if not a better quality of hotel.

We booked this room through asiarooms.com, and we got a much better deal than using the hotel website.
Our room was modern and the king size bed was comfy, and we both slept very well and had a hard time getting out the bed. The room had large bay windows with views of the city. My only caveat was the issue with the smoking. When guests were smoking in the halls or in their rooms, we could smell the smoke in our room, which was a bit of pain as I am very allergic to cigarette smoke. They should work on this problem because it is a bit of nuisance to have to smell the smoke from other people's room in our own room!
Room service prices were more than reasonable. We were pleasantly surprised!
I was very pleased with the concierge. They helped us with every question we had and quickly booked us into to the best restaurants they could. They were quick, efficient, and very friendly.
Would I stay here again? Most likely. However, I would not book through the hotel as the prices were high, and with those prices I would rather go to the Westin or Sofitel.

Stayed here for 2 nights in Dec 2007 so slightly late in posting. Overall really enjoyed this - our Suite was large and luxurious although didnt provide much of a view. We had opted to pay extra for the Crystal Club which was very good, providing a good range of drinks and canapes in a grand and spacious lounge. The pool area was a highlight and provided a much needed refuge from an unseasonable downpour. Because the hotel doesnt have a central lobby bar area is does seem to lack a bit of a heart , but this doesnt make it a bad choice- central location with all the amenities you could look for. Must also agree with the other comments re the grumpy attitude of the limo driver from the airport - I think Crown should employ their own or change companies as this presents a poor impression on arrival.

For the price of the hotel it really isn't worth the stay. If you have lots of cash and don't mind throwing it away then this place is great. My wife and I stayed in one of the 3 one bedroom suites available. Yes the rooms are larger than a normal hotel room, yes the bathroom was huge and yes the floor to ceiling windows are great but at nearly $600/night it has the same facilities as a normal room at any other major hotel chain, minus any kitchen facilities (microwave, toaster... the basics). we could not believe that you are also expected to pay for wireless internet service, which is only available on one level of the hotel and not in your room. I really don't understand how this hotel is listed as #1 on trip advisor... The rooms are stuffy and not able to let in fresh air which we noticed when someone on our floor started smoking and the smell came into our room. I wouldn't suggest this hotel knowing there are better quality and newer hotels in better locations not that far away.

We arrived in Melbourne at 6.15am and were over tired to the point we could not be bothered talking to anyone including each other, we had no sleep on the way over from Perth to Melbourne midnight horror flight but glad we did so we could spend most of Friday in Melbourne.
We had a limo pick us up at the airport and the driver I would say had a bit of an attitude due to the plane was delayed and I needed to use the ladies before we collected our baggage he was freaking out a bit due to we were late but lightened up durring the trip to the hotel, the hotel hire out this service so I found out they are not responsible for the drivers or lack of service, the checkin desk were a appologitic for the drivers lack of service but frankly I could not have cared as long as we got to the casino and got our hotel room asap.
We arrived at the hotel and needed sleep the check in desk were very accomodating and allowed us to check in but added an extra 100.00 to the bill which at the point in time we did not care we just wanted a to sleep. this service which allows travlers to check in earlier I have never experinced it and is such a good idea and more hotels should take that on board.
We awoke around 10.00am Friday and did not have time to get to breakfast so we went to Bruebakers(caffe) in the casino and had a wonderfull breakfast with fantastic hot coffee as the day started off in Melbourne typical overcast with freezing wind.
I found Melbourne people happy and friendly and willing to assist when you asked for directions, no wonder people move here. Due to the lack of people in the service and hospitality industry in Perth it was a great change to get people assist you and it seemed at times over serviced which we are not used to.
The room was excellent very clean and due to our 20th annivesary we thought we would splash out for 3 nights and spend it a the Crown and I am glad we did.
We booked on line through the hotel got a specail deal which included breakfast and a bottle of wine on arrival.
For 550.00 for the first 2 nights and then 450.00 the last night which included breaky we were very happy.
Our last night we had room service they forgot the wine and my husband ceasar salad was not up to expectation, although they did not charge us for the 48.00 bottle of wine of which we greedly consumed, which was later delivered 3 mins later after a phone call to the room service desk.
The breakfast was excellent at the conservatry restaurant and we ate alot the choice was great. We had dinner at JJ's which was expensive but lovely my meal was sent back due to is was luke warm but was given back to me in a matter of mins, I am glad I do not live in Melbourne as I would not be able to keep up with the my expensive taste and restaurant choice there, Melbourne people are lucky to have a wide choice of international restaurants, fashion, and also nightlife congrats on the service and we will be back in the future to spend more time in your wonderfull but very cold city.
seems a few photo's have already been posted on the site for the Crown so I will not bother with mine as they are all the same as the ones on this web site.
