We were guests at this hotel for 2 nights - we were VERY disappointed in the service and upkeep of this hotel.
1. Upon arriving the bell man made NO effort to help us and suggested we pull around the sided and go in that way.
2. The concierge was VERY unfriendly and cold/curt. She seemed annoyed that we were asking ?s and sent us to a restaurant for lunch that was actually closed! She also made no effort in giving good directions - it was "just turn on first street and you will find it..." And of course we couldn't.
3. She was often on break and again was not helpful at all in asssisting w/ dinner reservations for both nights. We ended up doing it on our own.
4. The room itself was "tired looking". The bedspread was worn and the pillow shams were actually ripped. The room had a musty smell.
5. This hotel was VERY expensive - save your $ - book elsewhere. I would NEVER go back.

The River Terrace Inn is better than a standard hotel, but nothing extra special. The staff was satifactory, but again nothing extra special. The continental breakfast was fine, but once more nothing special. Our room was nicely decorated. We booked a river view room, but it wasn't worth the extra money. If you are going to stay here, just stay in a courtyard room and save your cash to buy more wine! The pool was also nice, but it was on the cold side. A jacuzzi would be a nice addition.
The location was good. We could walk to the downtown part of Napa, but the city shuts down after 6 pm. Next time we are in wine country we will stay further north or in Sonoma.

We only stayed the one night at the RTI and it was so nice we really did want to stay longer. The DVD-lending service is a great innovation and also providing breakfast as part of the deal - I wish more US hotels would do this as in Europe/rest of the world (on the plus side in the US you pay just for room rather than 'per person'). Napa Valley was lovely and we visited a few of the vineyards (what IS this nonsense with the free glasses? Please just reduce the cost of the tasting or add another splash of something or, if you have to give something away, give smaller, travel-friendly gifts like corkscrews or fridge-magnets (glasses tend to break in luggage!!). Back to the hotel - the room was very well-appointed, beds were very comfortable and everything was of high quality. Staff were friendly too. Next time we're in Napa we'll definitely stay here!

After some decent research, I settled on the River Terrace for a wine tasting stop in Napa. Based on the price ($175 for a weekend King Room booked through the hotel direct with AAA), I couldn't find anything even close in the heart of the Napa area for a 3.5-4 star property. This place lives up to the billing. Its a cross between a lodge and a nice business hotel. The lobby has a great wine bar area with an atrium that creates a good ambiance for a drink (or three). The free breakfast that is included for every guest is a great way to start the day. Good coffee, eggs, sausage, toast, and other warm dishes.
The rooms are done very well -- spacious, and modern (but maintain a lodge type feel). Bathrooms are large and shower is bigger than normal as well (it has no tub, though - just a shower). The grounds are well kept -- the back patio is a great place to sit by the bonfire and take in some of the wine purchases from the day. We walked into DT Napa to eat -- about a 10 minute walk, not bad at all. I definitely will be recommending this property to future Napa travelers - and I'll be staying there again assuming the rates dont change!

Great Hotel!

When we first pulled up to the hotel I was a little bit worried because it doesnt look like much from the outside. Once you go inside though that totally changes. We had a great suite with a balcony overlooking the river. The room was above and beyond what I expected. Also, the breakfast was way more than a normal continental one, it included eggs, hash browns, cheeses, and all kinds of other good things. I would definitely recommend it to anyone that wants a nice hotel in napa without breaking the bank.
