First know – there is NO AC! This I was not told to me when making this reservation & it was 92 degrees. Mngmt tells me they are to tell you this.
I spoke with the hotel manager, Larry & he tells me they are in the process of fixing some issues that are in GREAT need of fixing.
Understaffed, cleanliness, house keeping staff, sheets, noise, window screens and the list goes on. I am not one to write in on these sites and I did read a not so favorable review and thought it was from of those “never say nice” sorts. I stayed at this hotel 2 years ago (winter) & it was wonderful. So much so I booked this stay.
The manager Larry seemed to care about ALL that I had to say & it was a lot. He offered me a credit & that was not my reason or goal for the call. He offered me his cell # & truly wanted me back in my future travels.
Keep the faith – it will once again be great!

Using the hotel's website, I booked the Premiere Balcony Suite with "views of Glenwood Springs and down valley." When I checked in, the front desk informed me that I had been moved to the "Presidential Suite" on the second floor because the party in my third floor Premiere Balcony Suite wanted to stay an extra night. I argued that this party should move to the Presidential Suite if they wanted to outstay their reservation, but the clerk said it had already been changed. The views from the Presidential Suite were of trees in the hotel courtyard. This is the main problem we've had with this hotel over the years: bait and switch reservations. So when you review the website and see the wonderful options, don't count on having what you reserved when you check in. This year was the last straw for us and we will not be back again. -- Beth Larson, Washington DC

The Hotel Colorado is an historic hotel that has maintained its charm and character from its original heyday in the early 1900s. I took my mom for the weekend, who thoroughly enjoyed staying in such a stately historic property.
On the first night we arrived, the hotel lobby was being used by a string group for a jam session. The group played folk music, was quite good and was a pleasant surprise. We sat in the comfortable chairs and sofas in the lobby and enjoyed the atmosphere.
Though the hotel does not have air conditioning, we found the lobby to always be cool. Our room on the 3rd floor was warm, but not unbearable (outside temps were over 90). With the ceiling fan, sleeping was not a problem. The bathroom is small, but adequate and the beds were comfortable, though a bit hard for my taste (Mom thought they were fine). The rooms are well appointed and the hotel has kept original features where possible.
We ate at Baron's, the hotel's fine dining restaurant, on our first evening. During the summer months, the restaurant is located outside in the courtyard, which was pleasant. The food was good, but not great. The wine selection was quite good. I like to refer to dining in the Colorado mountains as "dining on mountain time" since the service can be slow (especially if you are used to the faster pace of service in the east). Baron's was no exception and the service was a bit slow. However, when dining in the mountains, sit back, relax and enjoy the scenery - that's what we did and have no complaints.
The front desk was helpful for recommending other places to eat, and also is the place to get towels (free of charge) for going to the hot springs pool.
The hotel also has a river rafting tour operator, bike rentals and spa located on the premises. We did not utilize any of those services, but it seemed a fair amount of people were renting bikes and signing up for rafting.
I booked through the Glenwood Springs tourism website - it offered the best rate compared to Travelocity and Expedia. www.visitglenwood.com Two nights came to $348 with tax.

Avoid it if you can. This hotel is an example of bad run business. The building is superb but the current owners have not bring it up to today standards.
The staff lacks any proper training, that goes for the reception and the restaurant.
The adventure starts when you push the elevator button. You get electrocuted. And I am not talking about static, nice lovely voltage shock. The staff answer "is the humidity". Then you arrive to your room. BIG disappointment. No air conditioning, a roof ventilator which is as old as I am and so are the bed covers. Have made no effort to conceal water and central heating pipes.
In a few words I felt ripped off, don't know how they can get the star rating that they have or charge what they do.
Also, you better leave your husband/partner to do the talking as pointed up by one of the shift managers. Backwards.

Stayed at Hotel Colorado the weekend of June 20-22nd. Disappointed overall, but there were some pluses, too.
The hotel was built in 1892, so you need to expect certain things, such as small bathrooms, no air-conditioning, etc. However, just about all of our problems had nothing to do with the age of the hotel. It's just in disrepair. Our room had a broken lock, lightbulbs burned out, a large crack/hole in the sink basin, televisions that didn't work, and window screens that didn't fit. The furniture in the rooms wasn't antique. It was just plain old and really cheap (think Grandma's house, circa 1970). The beds were very hard and uncomfortable (even our kids complained about it--and they can sleep in sleeping bags on the floor at home without a single word) and the bedlinens and towels were cheap and scratchy. We had a two-bedroom suite and only one of the bedrooms had a fan (this is a BIG problem in the summer in a hotel with no air-conditioning!).
The biggest problem for us was the noise. There is a courtyard in the center of the hotel which is beautiful but the acoustics cause all of the noise to drift up to the rooms. The hotel has signs posted everywhere asking people to observe family quiet hours after 10 p.m., but they do nothing to enforce it. There were very loud drunken people partying in that courtyard until 2:30 a.m. and despite multiple calls to the front desk, nothing was done to remove them or quiet them. We got zero sleep, even when we closed the windows and let our room temperature get up to about 90 degrees. On the plus side, after complaining to the manager in the morning, he did kindly remove the ENTIRE cost of that night's stay from our bill.
Also on the plus side, the hotel is in a perfect location. You can walk just about anywhere from there. The lobby is very charming and well-kept, too. They also offer "family" rooms, which include two bedrooms and a bathroom in between. When traveling with children, this is nice and is a little less expensive than having to get two rooms at the other hotels in the area.
This hotel is really a two- or MAYBE a three-star property that bills itself as more and charges rates that are much too high for what you get. I'd consider staying here again because of the perfect location, but only in the wintertime and only if I could get a much better rate.
