My experience at the Kawada Hotel in Los Angeles was okay but not all that great. The staff were courteous, and the rooms were in good shape. However, if you are looking to stay there for business, I must caution that the windows are not well insulated for sound, so if you're a light sleeper, chances are that you might wake up from the buses and emergency vehicles that may pass by the hotel overnight.
In essence, if you are okay with staying in a small room with inadequate windows, then it's a possible place to stay at.
Advantages:
* Courteous Staff
* Clean Rooms
* Laundromat On-site
* Location to Downtown LA and Civic Center
Disadvantages:
* Antiquated Rooms
* No iron / ironing board
* Poor sound insulation to outdoor environments
* Use of punch-card keys and not magnetic swipe card keys
* Lack of in-room safe for securing valuable items

we stayed at Kawada for one week on our honeymoon and it wasnt too bad. Positives were a vending machine on one of the levels, free internet access twice a day for 10 mins, staff were mostly nice to us, willing to help out with booking for tours etc which was cool, clean rooms, cleans sheets, a really big bathroom and the cherry pick cafe next door was ACE! negatives were, bit of an old feel to the place, bit dated, no access to stairs- you have to use an elevator which sucks when you hate the bloody things like i do!!!, the hotel was far from tourist attractions and seemed to be a dead end side of town. overall, could have been worse so it was ok for what we paid.

We stayed in the Kawada for 6 nights and firstly I would like to say that the staff at the Kawada were very nice and friendly, they helped us to plan our stay in LA.
The room smelt very smokey every time we entered our room although the room was cleaned and bedding changed every day.
The location was not very good there was a small shop a couple of blocks up and a chinese and pizza place 2 blocks down and that was it on the "NICE" side of broadway (as we were told by 3 different tour guides), as we wouldnt walk any where else as we felt very vulnerable walking around.
Never again

We lasted one night in the Kawada. We arrived in the evening were told there was no food within the Hotel. We were told to walk down 2nd Street to find some. There was nothing open and a police car stopped to tell us it wasnt safe to walk around at night in the area, My experience was it wasnt all that good during the day either. The room was dirty and when I pulled back the bed covers it was obvious the sheets hadnt been changed. Most of the staff were friendly and helpful but there was little they could do to change the frightening location or the sheer lack of facilities offered. The web site had indicated there were two restaurants in the hotel and the photos of the rooms were so far from what was there that I wonder if it was even the same hotel. We moved to another Hotel in Hollywood which was in a much better location.
