My wife and I stayed at this hotel for a couple of nights in June 2007. As a starting and finnishing point for our touring holiday of Norway.
We found it very comfortable, warm and welcoming.
I have to agree with another review that said the breakfast room was far to small for a hotel of this size. You had to get up at the crack of dawn to get any decent breakfast to beat the hoards of Japanese and American tourists. Neither know anything about manners. But that aside the Hotel is a very very good base for spending time in Bergen it is only a few min's walking distance from anywhere in Bergen.
I would recommend it to anyone.

I stayed at this hotel because it was the one Globus chose for the Scandanavian tour. This was the worst hotel of the various hotels we stayed at. The furniture in my room was banged up and it had definitely seen better days. The bathroom stunk and it caused the room to smell some. The breakfast buffet was lacklustre. Some of the food items were cold when they should've been warm or hot. One of the people at reception were rude when I asked what kind of internet access they had..
Good points about this hotel: excellent location. It was a block from the harbor and just down the street from the Hanseatic era buildings. It has a free internet terminal.

Our triple room, #502, was actually quite nice - situated at the front of the hotel looking over the rooftops of Bryggen and out over the harbour. Bathroom is however small.
Our fellow travellers had a double room overlooking the inner courtyard, this room felt claustrophobic.
The problems started when we arrived at the hotel. We'd booked 3 nights through the hotel's own website but when we arrived were informed they had made a mistake and overbooked the hotel for the 1st night so we had to stay in the First Hotel Marin accross the road for 1 night. This hotel was actually much better but we disliked the inconvenience of moving (tried to stay in the First hotel all 3 nights but they were full the remaining 2 nights!).
The breakfast at the Rosenkrantz was awful, hopelessly inadequate-sized room, v. difficult to get a table then had to share with others. The hotel was full with bus loads of group tourists. Food nothing to shout about.
The checkout was a mess, they wanted to charge us for 3 nights even though we had paid the First Hotel Marin for the 1st night, then wanted to charge a higher rate for the triple room even though it was a special offer when booking - same rate as a double. Credit card was charged and credited 3 times with the resulting exchange rate losses, and even though we got a discount in the end and the staff apologised, the 30 minute checkout was a frustrating end to a disappointing stay at the Rosenkrantz.
