I was on a business trip earlier this month. Upon my return home as I was doing laundry i noticed that i was missing clothes that i had just purchased during my trip. I talked to my co-workers and they said that also were missing clothes AND jewelry. I don't recommend you stay here unless you want your personal belongings missing!

We ended up staying at this hotel, for TAMU graduation, after the Ramada Inn dumped our reservations. By then, it was nearly impossible to find a place to stay for the weekend, so we took a chance on the Plaza. Wrong move! This place needs to be demolished. I remember this hotel when I was at TAMU, some 28 years ago. Since then, it's been a hotel, then a dormatory, then a hotel again.
The rooms were old, musty-smelling and sparsely appointed with furniture and drapes that were likely bought at a hotel-salvage sale. There wasn't even a coffee maker in the "breakfast room" and there was a limited supply of plasticware to use for the meager selection of breakfast items. I had to walk across Texas Avenue (as did a number of other guests), each morning, to get coffee.
Also, there were no ice machines. Instead, signs were posted in the elevators directing guests to the 9th and 11th floors for ice. What they found were ice chests, without scoops - definitely a health concern. When we checked out, we found that the rate had gone up $40 from what we were quoted when we made the reservations. When I questioned the clerk about it, she told me that there wasn't a manager present and that none of the managers were answering their cell phones. We're still working on that problem.
About all I can say about this place is that I had a place to sleep and take a shower. But, at $149 a night, I would have driven to Bryan, or beyond, for nicer accomodations.

Our baseball team, unfortunately, stayed at this hotel at the recommendation of the tournament coordinator. My first clue that the hotel was outdated was when we were handed two REAL keys for the door to our room. Going up in the elevator, I was able to catch a glimpse of some of the other floors when people got off. I seriously thought it looked like a jail. The rooms have two full size beds, instead of queen size. The a/c must be ancient. It took an entire day for our room to cool off. The pool area was decent, however, one of the pool lights came apart and was floating in the pool while out children were in there. I didn't see any roaches or other bugs, but I'm sure they're hiding somewhere. Our team had tons of complains and was finally told that all of our rooms were going to be comp'ed. However, I was still charged for the room.

I have no idea why people "love" this hotel, unless they are not aware of what quality and cleanliness is. The first indication was the lack of cars in the parking lot. Our volleyball club stayed there this past weekend. Not knowing if it was requested that we all be on the same floor (I'm guessing this was), we were scattered from 1-18. Our guess was that they wanted to give the appearance that people were actually staying there.
The lobby was dinghy looking with faded paint. Decent, but not up to standards. When we got off on our floor and began walking down the hallway, my daughters' comment ... " good thing we didn't get 1408!" (check out the movie 1408 if this doesn't make sense to you). As we wallked down the hallway we noticed 2-3 doors not shut. We got to ours and found the same. The doors do not close or latch by themselves. You have to turn the deadbolt.
The carpet was stained and very old looking. The beds did have clean linen, but very uncomfortable. The bathroom did not appear to have been cleaned very well. The hair in the tub was one indication!
The ceiling is a drop tile style. Everyone of the tiles sagged in the middle. This is an indication that they are VERY old!. And dirty looking. No pictures of any kind (not even cheesy 70's stuff). The room color looked to be something they had found tossed out of the back of a paint store.
Bottom line ... if you have no choice and need a place to flop for the night, this is what you are looking for.
