If you are looking for a hotel in Ottawa that is downtown, in walking distance of most things and want a good deal, stay at the Minto Suites.
My husband and I stayed for 3 nights in a Studio Suite and loved it. It is clean and modern and spacious. We has a small kitchen area with a microwave, sink, hot plate and all plates, utensils and anything else you would need to cook a small meal.
There is a separte little room where the Iron and ironing board are kept which was very convenient since it isn't in your way.
All staff that we dealt with were very nice and helpful.
We only paid $101 a night for our suite which I though was a great deal for what we got.
We have stayed at the Lord Elgin and the Crowne Plaza but when we go back to Ottawa, we will be booking with Minto.
Parking is $15 per day extra.
Sorry to say I didn't take any pictures of our suite!

Being an architect I usually pay attention to details and overall design of any hotel I am staying at. The Minto was very visually pleasing and a nice surprise in that regard. I stayed with my family for two nights during the Summer Orientation for my brother at the Carleton University.
Our suite was spacious and the kitchen and dining area were ideal for family breakfasts.

My husband and I stayed at the Minto for six nights in June to attend a graduation at Carleton. The suite was very nice since this building used to be apartments. We had a living room plus a large computer table and a dining room with table and chairs. The bedroom had a king sized bed and lots of storage space. Everything was very clean. The full kitchen had everything you would need to make your own meals. However, the main level of the hotel has a food court so you can have bacon and eggs for less than $5.00. There is also a Handy Mart and drug store in this mini-mall which is very convenient. The room also had a washer and dryer so if you have kids or are planning a longer stay you can do your own laundry. We spent one evening in the pool on the lower level which includes a lovely sauna and hot tub. Very relaxing after a day touring around Ottawa when it is 30 C.
This facility may seem a little expensive but it is well worth the price especially if you want to invite anyone over to vist for the evening for cards, etc.
The bed was very comfortable and you had your choice of foam or feather pillows.

Top Notch!

We have stayed here before but not in the past 9 years so we were anxious to see how things are. These suites are regular 1-bedroom (and 2) apartments, with full kitchens, large bathrooms and laundry facilities in the apartment. Given the location, should they ever go condo, I would buy one! Kitchens have all utensils, pots and pans, and everything you need to avoid going out to eat. The location is very good so if you choose restaurants, there are plenty nearby. It is a reasonable walk to Parliament Hill.
This is one of the quietest hotels I have stayed in. The place was full for the Canada Day week-end but I seldom heard a door close! The apartments are tastefully decorated and well-kept, with daily maid service. If I had t be picky, I would favour updating the mattresses on the king-sized bed and switching to fitted sheets!
2 TV's plus a substantial living/dining room make this ideal for families. There's even a phone in the bathroom.
This is much better than a regular hotel room and the price is in the same area. Just be careful in the underground parking - the spaces are really tight.

We have stayed a the Minto at least once a year for the last 7-8 years. It is never anything but Great!
I think it has the best value for any hotel I have stayed at.
Pool area is great.
Rooms are actually like small apartments, with all the comforts of home.
If you are staying in Ottawa I don't think there is any other choice.
