Nice, self contained unit in CBD
Guest name: DAEsmae, Boise, Idaho
Our agent booked this for us because I asked for a centrally located non-chain hotel in a quiet location for a honeymoon (one night of a longer trip). The room is really an apartment with full kitchen, like a time share unit, ready to be lived in for any length of time. There were two rooms and two bathrooms, both with spa tubs. The facility was nicely furnished. It was exceedingly quiet and we never even ran into another guest, which was great!!
The location is great. It is within walking distance from just about everything - shopping, dining, downtown, the bridge where you can walk over to museums, cultural attractions or catch a cruise to Lone Pine Sanctuary to see animals.
Overall, highly recommended as a unique, non-chain place. Particularly useful if you want to cook some of your own meals to cut travel costs or if you want to just have the ease and convenience of a refrigerator and home away from home for an extended stay. We only stayed one night.
I might have had trouble finding it without a driver. The signage is small and on the building itself, so look closely.

Given the fantastic location of this hotel, I am surprised at how difficult it was to find on the web. I did many searches for apartment style hotels in the CBD before finally finding Macarthur Chambers. I stayed here with my family for 2 nights split (one on the way up to Cairns and one on the way back). We booked a 2 bdrm deluxe room which had 2 bthrms and a study. We didnt need the study but appreciated the 2nd bathroom with having two teenage boys!
Our first night we were on the first floor. The apartment was great - exceptionally spacious with everything we needed. We loved the roof top pool and spa too! When checking out we commented that we had expected to have a 2nd tv in the master bdrm but we were told that as the apartments are individually owned they cannot guarantee that. As we were there for such a short time we werent too bothered by that but the Receptionist said she would do her best to get us an apartment with a 2nd TV when we came back through on our way home. We were very pleasantly surprised to find we had actually been upgraded to a 3 bdrm 2 level penthouse suite! All in all, we had a great stay at Macarthur Chambers and you cant beat the location, especially if you want to do some shopping (directly opposite David Jones)! Were just surprised that no one has ever recommended it to us. We would definately stay here again when in Brisbane.

MacArthur Chambers is situated in an excellent location in the centre of Brisbane, and the one-bedroom apartment I stayed in was spacious and tastefully furnished (although rather dark). However, poor service and unhelpful staff really let the place down. There was no information either in my room nor offered on arrival on facilities in the building/maps etc; various basic items were missing from the apartment (e.g. any kind of cloth in the kitchen and the starter kits for the dishwasher/washing machine); the air conditioning was exceptionally noisy even when switched off; the spa bath did not work; and the standard of the weekly servicing of the apartment was poor. The receptionists were also fairly unfriendly. Overall, I feel that MacArthur Chambers fails to provide a service in line with its cost, and I would not recommend it other than for a very short stay.

The Macarthur Chambers apartments are superbly situated in central Brisbane, right in the heart of the shopping area, close to excellent restaurants and business and legal precincts.
There is a very pleasant pool on the top floor, a small gym, and honorary membership of the Tattersalls club in a facing building, a good experience of the "old school" way of dining.
The one-bedroom apartment was great, very spacious for a solo traveller, bedroom separated, so could conduct business meetings separately, good kitchen facilities so could cook or reheat food, some cable TV, comfy furnishings, obviously recently refurbished.
The (very) downside was the unhelpful management, not at all friendly, in fact rude, and could not/would not provide assistance when asked, e.g. how to access the cable TV, replace broken coffee infuser, work out oven instructions. And refusal to store luggage, although insisting on checkout at 10 a.m. - I still had business to attend to that day, and had late afternoon flight, and hotel was fully booked, so I couldn't in any case extend the stay.
Overall, very mixed feelings: a great apartment in terrific location for a city stay, but unwelcoming (at best) managers.
