The Royal Treatment
Guest name: roadrunner42, Chicago, IL
This hotel is lovely! The lobby is sumptuous; the location is perfect, our room was huge and spacious. The staff was very helpful and we managed to communicate with a bit of effort on their part and ours. The cost of food and services was out of our league, but there is a supermarket across the street which we utilized - plus it's easy to get to little cafes or street markets or vendors. We stayed 7 nights in this hotel as part of a package and I was leary of it after reading the review, but I needn't have worried. Should I be fortunate enough to get back to this hotel again, I'd be thrilled. You do get Royal treatment at the Royal Monceau!

We have just got back from a fantastic three nights at the Royal Monceau. I was concerned after reading some of the reviews on here that the hotel would not live up to my expectations, however my fears were unfounded. Our room was a little on the small side, however there was plenty of storage space and big window looking out over the courtyard so there was no traffic noise.
The staff were all very helpful, we had a lovely porter show us to our room and explain how to get to the spa etc which is included in the cost of the room. Yes the mini-bar and breakfast are extortionate, however there are plenty of cafes around the hotel and there is a supermarket directly opposite where a 2 litre bottle of water is 39 cents so there is no need to spend 7 euros in the mini bar.
The pool area is lovely, there were quite a few children when we were staying so it was a bit noisy at times, however the staff were constantly clearing away wet towels and making sure everyone was happy. Considering the hotel was full when we were there we hardly had to wait for loungers, and happily spent a couple of hours each day relaxing.
The servicing of the rooms is also excellent, always fresh towels and decent sized toiletries.
People have complained here of 'faded grandeur', I disagree. I thought the communal areas of the hotel were lovely, and the room was very well furnished. Maybe these guests would be better in a posh chain hotel were everything is uniform.
We didn't pay the full rate for our room, however it was not cheap. Despite this, I feel it was worth the money and we've come home completely relaxed.
I would recommend the Royal Monceau and would definitely visit again.

The hotel is the height of oppulance. It has a great location and one of the few hotels in the centre of Paris with an indoor pool.
The decor is as expected very Parisian with chandaliers and some beautiful touches.BUT boy is it expensive. Now value for money wise the hotel is a rip off ,nice, but panders to the excessively rich.Service is non too good ,very polite and officious but without any real feeling and commitment.
Forget eating here unless you arrived in Paris by private jet .45 euros for breakfast ,be careful as the booking/terms for breakfast is per room and not per person ,which you will be charged for. The hotel is sited about 200 metres from Arc de triumph and in a road vitually parallel with the Champs elysee,Rue Hoche. The rooms are well kept ,clean tidy and relatively spacious for Paris standards.Satelite tv in the room but basic news channels in english.
All in all no where near worth the money.

I decided to stay at the hotel due to its location, about 200 metres from the Arc d' Triomph and near to the Champs Elysee. However the hotel is very overpriced!!
We paid 16 Euro for 2 cups of tea, in the hotel bar.
The chambremaid did not make up our room on one of the days, and our bath and sink did not work properly.
Don't get me wrong, the decor was beautiful - very Parisian, with huge chandeliers. I don't think this justifies the prices they charge, it even cost approx 20 euros to watch a film in your room!
I'm not sure where they get their prices from, but it makes London seem cheap!
